Just a few days later, Lumber Liquidators stopped selling all Chinese laminate flooring. But the company had made $13.9 million from such sales since January 2015, prosecutors said, when executives concluded they had to stop using one Chinese supplier because of the formaldehyde concerns.
Lumber Liquidators shares were slammed in March 2015 after a “60 Minutes” report alleged that Chinese-made laminate flooring from Lumber Liquidators installed in many American homes contained far higher than accepted levels of formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.

Like all engineered hardwoods, engineered bamboo flooring uses non-toxic trace amounts of urea-formaldehyde during manufacturing, but it is generally in meager, safe quantities. These quantities are roughly equivalent to the levels used in household and office furniture and cleaning products.
How Much Is Formaldehyde In Bamboo Flooring? Despite formaldehyde being classed as a V.O.C (Volatile Organic Compound), it is only dangerous when found at high levels. Most high-quality bamboo flooring brands contain little or no formaldehyde on their floors.
Inexpensive bamboo flooring is susceptible to scratches and dings. Bamboo grass readily absorbs water and is susceptible to damage from water and excessive humidity, thus, it may not work well in basements or bathrooms. The contemporary look of bamboo doesn't fit with all decor.
According to Home Depot, “Laminate flooring at The Home Depot is verified by either GREENGUARD® Gold or FloorScore® certification to contain 0.0073 ppm or less of formaldehyde, which is a stricter standard than CARB 2 of 0.05 ppm.”
Porcelain and Ceramics. Porcelain and ceramic are safe if lead-free and do not contain radioactive substances. It is also formaldehyde free.
Impact Resistance
12mm is much more impact resistant than 8mm. Sharp items that accidentally fall on a thicker base will have very little effect on it. That's the reason why people prefer 12mm laminate in high traffic areas.
Installing hardwood flooring averages between $6 and $12 per square foot. On average, wood flooring costs between $3 and $7 per square foot for materials and $3 to $5 per square foot for labor. An estimate for installation of 1000 square feet of hardwood flooring runs between $6,000 and $12,000.
Formaldehyde is more common in laminate flooring, where it's found in the adhesive and resin. However, formaldehyde is also a concern in vinyl flooring, although its levels tend to be lower than in laminate flooring.

Formaldehyde is a strong-smelling, colorless gas used in making building materials and many household products. It is used in pressed-wood products, such as particleboard, plywood, and fiberboard; glues and adhesives; permanent-press fabrics; paper product coatings; and certain insulation materials.
Generally speaking, floors with a nontoxic seal or finish have the lowest VOC levels. These include solid hardwood floors, polished concrete, and tile. Keep in mind that every flooring option comes with a lot of variety. Take the time to consider the different materials and finishes available to you.
Engineered bamboo flooring consists of a backing layer made from cross-laminated plywood or fiberboard. A very thin veneer of natural bamboo is glued to the backing layer. To get the veneer, stalks of bamboo are sliced into strips, and the skin is removed.

He then resold the wood from the back of a trucking firm's yard in Stoughton, Massachusetts. Three years later in 1996, the company found their niche market in hardwood flooring.
