A pva primer is fine for most fresh drywall applications. You will see names with pva primers (pva is usually cheaper) they will work on fresh drywall perfectly.
But remember that most paints today contain primer, so while this step won't hurt, I do not believe it is necessary. However, I always prime drywall; especially exposed joint compound prior to spraying texture and Kilz2 has worked fine for this application.
Step 6: Allow 2 hours dry time*, then apply second coat.
Here are some examples of how a primer should be used on different surfaces, depending on condition: One Coat—New drywall, raw wood, subtle color changes. Two Coats—Damaged drywall, stained walls, rusty metal. Three Coats or More—Wood paneling, bold color changes.
Depending on how strong or bold the previous color is, it may be necessary to apply more than one coat of primer. However, it is not necessary to over apply the primer with so many coats. As long as the primer applies uniformly over the previous color, then one or two coats should be sufficient.

Back-rolling is typically most impactful when applying the primer for the interior walls of a home or a new construction build. While the primer is the coat that bonds with the substrate initially, airless spraying itself does not penetrate or enhance adhesion.
If you have various stains, shellac Bonding primer is the ideal choice. It can be used to cover rough surfaces and old varnish as well as metal and ceramic.
Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Brush – High quality Nylon/Polyester.

Hand-check to make sure your drywall finishing is smooth and ready for primer. Be sure all joints, screw holes, and taping has been fine-sanded smooth and ready for primer. If you need to sand further, be sure to use a standard sanding block as shown, with at least 180 grit sanding screens to smooth the wall.

KILZ Restoration is an innovative water-based primer which provides similar performance in stain and odor blocking as the long-established oil-based KILZ Original primer. Shellac and oil-based are traditionally better known to block severe stains especially water-soluble stains.
The best primer for smooth or textured Interior surfaces, is a Latex-based primer, such as the Sherwin Williams, “Premium Wood and Wall” Primer/Sealer. For textured surfaces, popcorn ceilings, an oil-based primer, like the KILZ Original Multi-Surface Stain Blocking Interior Oil-Based Primer, works best.
For most new drywall, two coats of primer are enough.
This gives you a good base for your paint job. Sometimes, one coat might work if you're using a high-quality primer. But if you see any uneven spots after the first coat dries, it's best to add another.
Sanding the primer before painting is not just a recommendation; it's a critical step in the preparation process for painting a car. Skipping this step can lead to a less than satisfactory finish and potentially compromise the paint's durability and appearance over time.
The surface of new drywall is thirsty for moisture, meaning it absorbs liquids unevenly. This uneven absorption can cause your paint job to look like an abstract art experiment gone wrong. The PVA in the primer essentially acts like a shield, reducing the drywall's thirst and locking in that moisture-sucking behavior.
Ceilings and Drywall - Medium 3/8″ roller covers work best. Walls, Wood, and Metal - Small 1/4″ roller covers or foam rollers will produce the smoothest finish. Light to Medium Textured Surfaces - Microfiber rollers are best. Smooth Surfaces - Use a white woven short nap roller for an ultra fine finish.
It's recommended to wait at least 24 hours before adding a coat of paint over your primer. Painting over it soon could cause your paint to adhere to the wall improperly, flaking and peeling.
