Flame was Le Creuset's first color: a bold, brilliant shade of orange directly inspired by molten cast iron poured from the crucible. Glowing from deep, earthy orange to light, Flame's distinct gradient is reminiscent of the cast iron cooling process, and the unique ombré effect became a trademark for Le Creuset.
Volcanic, the original icon
The original Le Creuset signature colour since 1925. Inspired by the colour of molten cast iron, our world-famous volcanic orange is synonymous with the heritage and craftsmanship of Le Creuset cast iron cookware and still makes an iconic style statement today.
Perfect for long braises, they were obviously well-suited to America's favorite stews and roasts. The original Le Creuset pots were all flame-red; this true red one, with its odd handles, belonged to Julia Child.
The original.
Inspired by the fiery orange colour of molten cast iron inside the foundry moulds, our founders' first enamel colour — volcanic — has become our signature hue. Vivid and unmistakable, it instantly says 'Le Creuset' to those in the know.
In addition to improving the function of cast iron, the pioneering enamel coating brought color to a sea of gray cookware, establishing Le Creuset as the leader in color and design. Flame was Le Creuset's first color: a bold, brilliant shade of orange directly inspired by molten cast iron poured from the crucible.
The Classic knobs have our name AND logo mark, while the Signature knobs just say Le Creuset.
Authentic Le Creuset have an embedded stamp on the bottom and feel like stoneware - not a thinner version of ceramic. As soon as you see them you will see that they are below the quality of Le Creuset. If you don't mind 'knock-offs' and paying top dollar for falsely advertised items, you will like them. I don't!
While Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron is dishwasher-safe, we do recommend hand washing to keep the finish beautiful. Over time, constant dishwashing may lead to some dulling of the enamel finish, but it's important to note that this will not hinder the cooking performance.
The color Flame is a vibrant, fiery hue that sits between red and orange on the color spectrum. This intense shade evokes the warmth and energy of a roaring fire, making it a captivating choice for various design elements. Flame has its origins in the natural world, inspired by the brilliant colors of burning flames.
In his New York Times best-selling book, Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child, author Bob Spitz stated that Child was diagnosed with breast cancer in the mid-60s. She had a mastectomy on February 28, 1968.
Only cookware made of the highest quality materials according to the principles of traditional craftsmanship is good enough for preparing these culinary masterpieces. This is why France is also the home of outstanding cookware - the home of STAUB. The lasting legacy of the stork.
Nonstick cookware
Julia loved her copper stuff, but she also loved her nonstick pans. She was a fan of all things nonstick, including sheet pans and muffin pans, but especially liked nonstick fry pans, considering them a “blessing” for omelettes and potatoes. (She was clearly very into omelettes!)
And right now, it's saying goodbye to two favorites: deep teal and ganache. Both are shades of perfection for many. One is a deep, multi-shaded hue of blue, the other a velvety chocolate brown.
Best-selling Dutch oven size
Well, it is no secret that our 5 1/2 quart Round Dutch Oven and 6 3/4 quart Oval Dutch Oven are Le Creuset's most popular sizes for a reason. These two sizes offer the most flexibility for most people, with the ability to scale up or down to accommodate whatever you are cooking.
You can even view Julia Child's beloved Le Creuset dutch oven in the Smithsonian Museum of American History, should you be so inclined (hers was flame red, like all of the brand's first dutch ovens).
Expensive — the cost for a 5 1/2-quart pot is $420 when it's not on sale. The light interior can be easily scratched by metal tools and stained by food (although you can eliminate some stains with a bit of elbow grease).
As for cleaners, our Le Creuset Cast Iron Cookware Cleaner will help keep your Dutch oven looking great, and is ideal for removing metal marks caused by metal tools. Bar Keeper's Friend, or a paste of baking soda and water, also comes in handy for cleaning tough stains, oil residue and marks on your Dutch oven as well.
Volcanic. The original Le Creuset signature colour since 1925.
But thanks to the dedicated sleuth work of one kitchenware-loving Redditor, we now know where to start building our own Le Creuset collection while on a budget: T.J. Maxx. You Maxxinista's better get your weekly budgets in order because this is one opportunity worth taking advantage of ahead of the holidays.
Le Creuset products that are not cast-iron may be made in other countries, such as China (accessories or silicone products), Thailand (kettles and ceramics), England (enamel cleaner), Portugal (stainless steel), and Eswatini (clay pots).
A 40 stamped inside the lid lets you know you're holding (we suspect with great effort) a 15-quart (14.1-liter) oval dutch oven. That's a big pot! Stamped numbers are also visible on the bottom of Le Creuset skillets and grill pans. Flip them over, and you'll be able to determine what size you're holding.
Cousances was a brand of enameled cast iron cookware ("cocotte" in French). originally manufactured by a foundry in the town of Cousances-les-Forges in northeastern France. The Cousances foundry began making cast iron pans in 1553. Four centuries later, in 1957, the brand was acquired by Le Creuset.
