The best water for your plants is rainwater. It's clean and chemical-free. Rainwater contains the highest levels of oxygen, which is beneficial to plants. High oxygen content in water leads to larger root mass, encouraging faster intake of nutrients and plant growth.
Best Water for Houseplants
Most tap water should be fine for houseplants unless it is softened because softened water contains salts that can build up in the soil over time and cause problems. Chlorinated water is also safe for most houseplants, but if you have a filtration system, that's much better for your plants.
Overall, distilled water can be good for plants because it helps remove contaminants, but the lack of nutrients means you may need to use a supplement or consider another type of water.

Give your plants a bath
Well, sort of. Fill up your sink or bathtub with a few inches of water and lay a towel inside to protect against scratches. Rest your potted plants in the sink and leave them there while you're gone. The soil will draw water up to the roots, keeping the plant hydrated for up to one week.

Plants get their moisture through their roots, not their leaves. Direct watering to the soil surface and avoid wetting leaves because water helps spread some plant diseases. Use a watering wand to reach ground level or a soaker hose or trickle irrigation system to wet the soil rather than the leaves.

DON'T Use Softened Water
Water softening systems use sodium, which can negatively affect the health of your houseplants. If your softener connects to both the hot and cold faucets – or if you aren't sure how it's connected – fill up your watering can at an outdoor spigot. Or, use filtered or purified water.
Distilled water is also a good choice and is easy to find at most grocery stores. Finally, you can also use a reverse osmosis filter to make tap water safe for your plants. This type of filter will remove nearly all contaminants from the water, leaving your plants with clean, safe water that won't harm them.
