Abloy Protec offers a full range of high security door cylinders and uses a “one key, many locks” system making it very easy to cut one key to fit and open many types of Abloy locks. With a unique, rotating disk cylinder, keys and cuts are made in two different radii making Abloy key duplication impossible.
Keys from these cylinders can be copied at any store that provides this service with no need to present any card – merely showing the key is enough. At TESA ASSA ABLOY we recommend you to acquire patented cylinders that protect the key from fraudulent copies and prevent such intrusion methods as bumping.
The principle behind the cylinder was simple – in the locked position, the inner cylinder within the outer cylinder is prevented from rotating by a set of two-piece, tumbler pins. When a key is inserted into the lock housing, the tumbler pins move to different positions according to the grooves on the edge of the key.

Abloy currently has two different systems of locks the Abloy Protec2 and the Abloy Protec. First you must decide which system you would like to buy, most locks are available in both systems.
Abloy Protec / Abloy Protec2
It is completely bump proof and extremely pick resistant. It is well respected as one of the top of the line high security locks in the world.
High security keys are keys that are difficult or practically impossible to duplicate without permission and that work with locks that have resistance to being picked, bumped, or defeated by other means.
CLIQ keys are battery-powered and can be programmed with flexible access rights and schedules. Every lost key is easy to revoke electronically, saving you time and money on changing locks. Optional regular key revalidation adds another layer of access control.
If it's a lost key a locksmith can make you a key without the original, as locksmiths can make keys to lock by hand. By using a blank and a file and the skills, they've developed over the years a locksmith can create a key from scratch without the need for an original key.
Laser cut keys are made with a constant depth down the middle, making them thicker and more sturdy in general. The indention made on the key is equally made on both sides so that the key can be inserted and the engine started no matter which direction the key is put in (this is where the internal key name comes from).
Double-Sided & Four-Sided Key - These types of keys have either two or four sets of teeth on them and are most commonly used for home locks. We recommend the four-sided key, as it is more durable and the extra teeth make the lock more difficult to pick.
Disc tumbler locks are composed of slotted rotating detainer discs. A specially cut key rotates these discs like the tumblers of a safe to align the slots, allowing the sidebar to drop into the slots, thus opening the lock. Unlike a wafer tumbler lock or a pin tumbler lock, this mechanism does not use springs.
The design of a tubular lock is similar to the pin tumbler lock, in that there are several stacks of pins. The key is a cylinder shape with notches cut around the outer or (rarely) inner edge. Each of these notches depresses a single pin inside the lock to a specific height allowing the lock cylinder to turn freely.

With residential, if you are worried about a break in, but have nothing special of value in the house, the answer is going to be High security locks are not worth it for you. The reason is that with residential properties, locks are one of the statistically lowest probability compromised element in break-ins and theft.
Pick-resistant locks have an extra set of tumblers or locking apparatus so that, in effect, the key has to do two things at once. Because of their resistance to manipulation, these locks are also resistant to key bumping. One of the most popular pick-resistant locks is the Medeco.
An experienced locksmith will be able to make a replacement key for you even if you do not have the original. When you contact a locksmith, you will need to supply some information to the company before your key can be replaced.
About Primus Keys
Schlage Primus is a unique, patented type of key that features additional side “cuts” or “millings” that make the lock extremely difficult to manipulate and open. These side cuts work in conjunction with a “side bar” located inside the Schlage Primus lock cylinder.
Duplication of restricted keys is limited to approved manufacturers and locksmiths and requires the use of particular tools. In order to have a copied made, the locksmith should ask for identification of the person requesting it and proof that this person has obtained permission from the original owner.
Is it Illegal to Copy a Do Not Duplicate Key? If you see a key that says “Do Not Duplicate” on it, then you might wonder if it is actually illegal to copy that key. According to wikipedia, there isn't a law in place that specifies that it is illegal to replicate a do-not-duplicate key.
