Standard curtains come in three lengths—84 inches, 96 inches, or 108 inches. "Generally, you want to stay away from the 84 inch standard curtains unless you have very low ceilings.
The 'Norm' if you like, would be to have a 3 inch (7.5cm) hem. However if you are making curtains that are quite large or long, you may find that a 4 inch (10cm) hem gives proportionately better appearance. Or, if your curtains are going to be quite short, hemming them with a 2 inch (5cm) hem would be sufficient.
For fullness, multiply the width (rod length or window width, plus the 6-8" extra for rod extension) by the desired fullness. We recommend two times the fullness.
The rod pocket for a curtain rod is generally 1 1/2 inches in width for either ready made or custom curtains, the first being single and the other double. There can also be a top ruffle added above the rod pocket which can be 1, 2 or even 3 inches in height.
