There is absolutely no need to change flooring from room to room. We often work with homeowners who feel the urge to pick a different flooring for every room of their home, but there is absolutely no need to do this. Your home will look best if you create one consistent look that travels from room to room.
It keeps the house looking consistent
If you have a color scheme or style that you love, having the same flooring flow from room to room will allow you to extend that feel throughout your entire home. Using the same flooring material ensures your home will have an elevated and cohesive design.
Though there's no general rule, the most pleasing schemes have a contrast of some kind between flooring and walls. So, a lighter carpet will work well with dark walls, and a darker carpet is a good option with lighter walls.
You don't need a high pile anything on lower level or bedrooms. Pick ONE neutral carpet for both floors, and then something bolder/different for your stair.
Although a transition strip is often made of wood, they also come in a metal strip, aluminum strip, or vinyl strip. If you chose floors of the same material, like two different types of hardwood floors, it may be that you don't need a transition strip between the edge of the rooms.
As long as there is a link with the colours, that will work. For example, and I don't have a picture of this, you could have a dark grey hall carpet or in the downstairs rooms, take it up the stairs in pink and grey stripes and then have a paler grey in the upstairs rooms.
When it comes time to change out your carpeting and you have a stair that needs it too, don't just go with the same that you are putting in upstairs. Consider helping that stair stand out and make a statement, as well as going a long way to hide soil, wear and tear.
The most popular colour carpet for stairs is actually greige – a beautiful blend of grey and beige.
Same Carpeting
The same idea goes if both your downstairs and upstairs are carpeted. You can go for a shade or design that exactly matches both floor levels or the level from which your stairs are more visible. For a bit of contrast, you can also opt for a similar carpet shade — one that is subtly darker or lighter.
Just over a third (37%) of respondents said that they preferred grey carpets for their homes. One reason for this choice is that grey, unlike white or beige carpets, camouflages stains and dirt better, making them less visible. However, to preserve the life of a carpet, it's still advisable to regularly clean it.
Light colors like beige, tan, and white are good choices since they won't show any dirt or stains as easily as darker colors do. Patterned carpets with designs such as stripes or swirls can also help mask any messes while adding visual interest to your space.
There is a reason why neutral colors are the biggest sellers in carpeting. Carpet has a big impact in a room, and bright colors in a large expanse can be overpowering.
Luxury vinyl has become our most popular choice for home flooring, and for many good reasons. As mentioned previously its waterproof, low maintenance, resilient, and is one of the most budget-friendly options, too!
A good rule of thumb is to stick with two or, at the most, three types of floors for your whole house. For example, you could choose a type of large tile for high-traffic, high-spill areas like the kitchen, foyer and dining room. Then you could use smaller tile in the bathrooms.
There are both pros and cons to using the same flooring throughout the house. In some cases, having uniform flooring is more practical. But there are also instances where using different types of flooring is more advantageous. Ultimately, it all boils down to your preference and circumstances.
For years, tan and beige have been the carpet of choice for homes everywhere. That's because these carpet colors fit all design styles and offer a timeless appeal.
Go Neutral
Choose between cream, tan, beige, or caramel so it's neutral. Although it's tempting, avoid white as potential buyers may worry about keeping the carpet clean. Light-colored carpet makes rooms look bigger which is a major plus.
Stairs can be darker than the floor, but they do not have to be. As long as your stairs complement your floors, you can make them any color you wish.
Safety: Wood is slippery, and wood on the stairs can be dangerous in a home with children and the elderly. For this reason, carpet is the better choice, as it will greatly reduce the chance of a slip and fall that could cause serious injuries.
You should look for something which is stain resistant, easy to clean and durable. Carpets with a low pile work really well on stairs, and make them safe and stable to use.
Once you've selected the style of carpeting for the room or rooms in your home that need updating, it's time to choose a color. In small rooms, think light or neutral colors. Light colors don't soak in the light from the room; rather, they reflect it, resulting in the appearance of a larger space.
Once a carpet is installed in a new home, it can look lighter than the in-store sample. Lighter colored carpet might visually expand the size of the room and darker carpeting will seem to bring the walls closer together. Neutral colors are best for resale value or if you change décor styles frequently.
PATTERNED CARPETS MAKE A COMEBACK
Until recently, carpets were primarily used in the bedroom. However, patterned carpets have been gaining popularity and are being introduced to the living and dining rooms. If done right, patterned carpets can be used to bring art and style into any room.
