While it's recommended to allow urine to air dry with a solution of vinegar or baking soda, you can speed up the process by opening your windows or running a fan. You can also gently dab the spot with a dry towel, but be careful not to wipe with the towel or you may end up making the urine stain worse.
Salt it. Like 20 pounds of salt. Just pour it on top of the wet spots. Leave it for a few hours, scrape it off and repeat. Put a towel over the top of the salt and walk on it to compress the mattress and draw the liquid to the salt. The third time leave the salt for 10 or more hours.
Urine contains bacteria, so if its left long enough it can develop mould. Urine contains urea, uric acid and other compounds that can be a risk. That smell of ammonia that gets trapped inside your mattress is caused by bacteria eating away at the residue of the urine.
You can skip the fancy cleaning products and find what you need right in your kitchen: white vinegar and warm water. Mix it up 50/50 and use a spray bottle to apply it to your mattress. Then blot the mattress again with a towel. You might have to repeat this process for a bigger (or smellier!)
Create a mattress stain remover by combining 8 oz. hydrogen peroxide, 3 tbsp baking soda, 1 tsp dish soap in a spray bottle - this solution will remove urine stains on its own, just wait until the spots are gone.
“The smell gets more concentrated over time,” Dr. Kornreich says. Additionally, once a urine stain dries, you may no longer see it without using a black light. But you can still smell it, and so can your cat, which can lead them to pee in that area again.
The combination of vinegar and laundry detergent works well to remove stains and odor. You'll also want to keep baking soda handy, as it will help pull up any remaining moisture in the bed and does a great job of absorbing odors. A wet/dry vacuum can also prove instrumental in cleaning up a urine-soaked bed.
While you are at it, sprinkle baking soda over the entire mattress and leave it uncovered for 18-24 hours. Finally, using a vacuum cleaner, clean all the dried baking soda powder and succeed in getting rid of pee from a mattress.
Simply mix equal parts distilled white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, shake well, then gently spray the mixture directly onto the urine stain (or stains). Vinegar also has some naturally mild disinfecting properties, but it's important to note that it should never be mixed with bleach.
Accidents happen. It's one of those facts of life. But they don't have to ruin your mattress. Whether you encounter a wet pee spot or a dried urine stain, the situation can ultimately be remedied with a few easy cleaning steps.
Urine Can Contain Bacteria That Can Cause Infections
This is especially true if the urine isn't removed completely or the bed is not allowed to dry completely. These bacteria can cause various infections, including urinary tract infections, skin infections, and respiratory infections.
Dried urine does not support microbial growth and is thus considered safe and suitable for regular shipment and storage. This is in contrast to liquid urine samples, which must be treated as biohazardous material at all times.
Use a fan or open windows to promote air circulation. Use a dehumidifier to remove excess moisture from the air. Sprinkle baking soda on the wet area to absorb moisture and eliminate odours. Flip the mattress periodically to ensure both sides are drying evenly.

Make a solution of baking soda, peroxide and any dish detergent. The combination of the three is often powerful enough to drive away strong urine smells. The solutions is eight fluid ounces of peroxide, three tablespoons of baking soda, and a few drops of dish detergent.

Debra Johnson, a cleaning expert for Merry Maids, recommends running urine-soaked articles through a full-wash cycle using cold water and one cup of distilled white vinegar (without detergent first).
Most urine stains can be cleaned either with a homemade vinegar cleaner, or a homemade hydrogen peroxide cleaner. Foams soak up liquids quickly, so all-foam beds can hold onto the smell of urine more than other mattresses. Many urine smells can be removed by making and using a simple baking soda paste.
Cover the stain in baking soda
Cover your mattress with baking soda while the fresh urine is still soaking in. Don't worry about soaking up excess moisture with paper towels. Leave the baking soda for 5 to 10 hours to absorb the pet wee as well as its odour.
Sprinkle enough baking soda over your mattress to cover it in an even layer. For minor odors, leave the baking soda to sit for at least half an hour. However, the longer you leave it, the more it absorbs moisture and odor-causing particles. In fact, you can leave it for a full 24 hours for the best results.
Bed-wetting that starts in adulthood (secondary enuresis) is uncommon and requires medical evaluation. Causes of adult bed-wetting may include: A blockage (obstruction) in part of the urinary tract, such as from a bladder stone or kidney stone. Bladder problems, such as small capacity or overactive nerves.
Absorbent products are items that absorb urine, such as adult diapers, plastic-coated underwear, pads, or panty liners that attach to underwear. Most commercially available items are disposable (such as Depend or Poise). Some absorbent cloths can be washed and reused.
