Spray a small amount of solvent-based furniture cleaner on a dry rag and wipe the lacquer gently, starting with a small section. Wipe this away immediately with a damp cloth and then dry the area with a dry cloth. Repeat this process, working in manageable sections, until the lacquer is clean.
If you have a handheld sander, you can use it to polish your wood lacquer. Similar to the micro-mesh process, use a 2000-grit sanding pad to expose any scratches in the lacquer, then spray a 3000-grit pad with water.

Lacquered furniture is beautiful and offers many advantages, but it is also delicate. Over time, it may tend to turn yellow or acquire an unpleasant patina of dirt. But don't worry! It is easy to clean a lacquered kitchen correctly, even if it requires a little extra care.
Cleaning should be done using a soft damp cloth or for more stubborn dirt a mild solution of liquid detergent in warm water with a soft cloth should be sufficient. Ensure excess water is squeezed out to leave the cloth damp, and wipe all surfaces dry with a clean dry cloth.
To remove dust, use a soft brush such as a hake brush. It is safe to use a very slightly damp, soft cloth to further clean lacquer. Never immerse in water. Also, do not use commercial products such as Pledge or Endust, which may permanently ruin the lacquer finish.
Be careful not to use too much water, and preferably, use only a damp cloth. Remember to always finish off by wiping the surfaces with a dry cloth. If you take good care of your lacquered furniture, no maintenance is necessary. Avoid leaving liquids on the surfaces and always ensure that they are kept dry.
You must let the paint coat dry for 24 hours at least. Then you can flat it with 1200 grit or finer wet and dry, using soapy water. Once the panels are dry, then you apply the lacquer.
Use denatured alcohol on shellac, lacquer thinner on lacquer, a three-to-one mixture of alcohol and lacquer thinner on a lacquer/shellac mixture. To reamalgamate the finished surface, apply solvent along the grain of the wood in quick, long strokes; work quickly, and don't let the brush get dry.
If the lacquer is thick enough, you can buff out scuffs with either rubbing and polishing compound, for gloss lacquer, or with 0000 steel wool and paste wax, for satin finishes.
daveo, you can definitely use wax over lacquer. i like renaissance wax as well, though right now i can only buff with a cloth. as for rubbing out lacquer, you can rub out the last coat if the sheen is not what you want.
Restore the appearance of lacquer pieces that have been damaged by exposure to light by polishing them with carnauba wax. Apply the wax with a soft cloth and polish it lightly with another clean cloth or a lambswool buffer. Use wax only to restore damaged pieces; avoid using it on pieces in good condition.
Caring for Lacquered and Painted Finishes
Do not use water, oil or solvents on the surface. For daily cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth. If the surface is dull or dirty, lightly polish it using a high-quality clear paste wax.

Tinted lacquer may be cleaned with a solution of warm water and a small amount of mild dish detergent.
To ensure zero damage to your lacquered glass while cleaning, do not subject it to forceful sprays of water and soap. Instead, use a soft microfiber cloth dipped in lukewarm water to gently clean the glass. Most detergents contain ammonia-based compounds that are abrasive to lacquered glass.
Between each coat, allow the lacquer to fully dry, and rough it up with 400 grit sandpaper, wiping dust off before applying the next layer. Three or four coats of lacquer should give you a smooth and shiny finish. The lacquer should be free of dimples, even and smooth.
Lacquers can be polished to a mirror-like reflection. Lacquer finishes are relatively easy to repair.
Lacquer finish is beautiful on wood furniture. The hard, glossy finish is applied in several coats. Resilient lacquer is a bit difficult to remove when you want to refinish your furniture with new lacquer. Fortunately, there are a few ways to make the process a little bit easier.
