If you have a really stubborn mold or mildew growth you can clean your fabric with a white vinegar solution. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) does not recommend using bleach to remove mold and mildew from fabric. Bleach only kills surface mold, which means the mold will grow back later.

STEP 3: Wash the cushions with a cleaning solution.
For those patio cushions that can't go in the washer, mix 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid in a bucket of warm water. If your cushions are mildewy, add ¼ cup of borax to the solution.
If you don't have access to bleach, Borax is another effective mildew remover. Mix together a solution of ¼ Borax and ¾ water, and use a cloth to rub the stained area. After a few hours of soaking, rinse the fabric with clean water to reveal good-as-new cushions.
Simply mix lukewarm water, 1/2 cup dish soap (omit if you want) and a few tablespoons of white vinegar then apply this to the cushions using a soft brush. Scrub well on all sides then let the mixture sit for a little while.

Additional Tips to Remove Mildew Stains and Odor
If you don't use bleach or pine oil to eradicate mold, you can also use hydrogen peroxide. It is less harsh than chlorine bleach. Hydrogen peroxide (3% to 10% solution) will kill mold and lighten stains.
Apply detergent to stain and launder. If stain remains, soak for 10 to 15 minutes in a solution of 1/4 cup chlorine bleach (if safe for fabric) or sodium perborate bleach and 3/4 cup water. An alternative to bleach is to treat with salt and lemon juice and dry in direct sunlight.
