If it's filling up more frequently then there's either more humidity in the air or recent maintenance has improved the moisture-removing efficiency of the unit.
In an exceptionally hot, humid climate, your vented portable air conditioner might fill up once a day. But in drier climates, you may only need to empty the reservoir once a week or less. Not all vented portable air conditioners require draining. Check the user manual to confirm if your model collects water or not.
Over time, this line can become clogged with dirt, dust, mold, or algae. When the drain line is blocked, the water that should be draining outside backs up into the drain pan, eventually causing it to overflow.
