Yes, Craftsman is more widely available, but Kobalt offers excellent quality, which is most evident in their tool kit line. Kobalt also offers a better lifetime warranty, because it's available for most of their products rather than just hand tools.
The newer Craftsman stuff honestly isn't bad if you're starting out or NEED some tools quickly on the cheap, but the tool sizing tolerance isn't quite there, the quality of materials isn't there, and some have had issues with warranting out broken hand tools. But they're not bad.
