As a general rule of thumb, your table length should be 1/3 the length of your room. For example, if your dining room is 15 feet long, your table should be approximately 5 feet long. For the width, allow at least 3 to 4 feet for comfortable circulation around seated guests.
A 96” - 108” long rectangular table can seat up to 12 adults, depending on table width. A 120” long rectangular table can seat up to 14 adults, depending on table width.
Measure the length and width of your dining space. Subtract 6 feet from both the length + width of the space to allow a 3' clearance on all sides. The result is the maximum recommended size for your dining table. For example, if you have a 12' x 9½' space, the maximum size for your table would be 72” x 40”.
I think you could comfortably fit a 10 person table in a 14'11” (aka 179”) wide space, if the room does not also double as a main walkway. I'd recommend against a 12 person table. You need at least 3 feet at each end for people to pull chairs in and out and for others to walk around.
If you are looking to comfortably seat 8-10 guests at a rectangular table, you have several options: 8' x 30" Rectangular: Seats 8-10. 8' x 36" Rectangular: Seats 8-10. 8' x 42" Rectangular: Seats 8-10.
The minimum comfortable width for a dining room table, accommodating at least two people, their plates, cutlery, and glassware, is 30 inches. However, it doesn't leave much space for serving dishes and other table items.
A 12x12 bedroom is a space that measures 144 square feet. This size is quite popular for residential bedrooms, offering enough room for essential furniture while still feeling cozy. In a 12x12 bedroom, you can typically fit a queen-sized bed, a nightstand on each side, and a dresser without feeling cramped.
In general, a good rule of thumb is to take the total length and width of your dining room, then subtract six feet on either side. For example, if your room is 30 feet by 22 feet, you'll want a table no bigger than 24 feet by 16 feet. That gives you three feet of room on either side when the table is at the center.
Standard width measurements for dining tables typically range between 28 inches (71 cm) to 40 inches (102 cm).
The table above is 91cm wide (36 inches). This is the smallest width if you want to allow just enough room for centrally placed serving dishes, although that is not to say we can't make narrower if room space is at a premium. A 97cm (38 inches) wide dining table, gives a little more room for serving dishes.
Measuring & Space Guidelines
We recommended allowing 36 inches or more between the edge of your table and the wall or other furniture. This leaves room for someone to walk behind the chairs while others are seated.
You'll need to figure out how much space you need to allow for everyone to sit comfortably around the table. The recommended space per person for a typical dining table is 70cm wide (for elbow room) by 90cm deep (to slide out your chair).
For a 6-seater dining table, you would generally need a space of at least 8 feet by 10 feet to accommodate the table and chairs comfortably. This allows for enough space for people to move around and pull out chairs without feeling cramped.
As a general rule of thumb, your table length should be 1/3 the length of your room. For example, if your dining room is 15 feet long, your table should be approximately 5 feet long. For the width, allow at least 3 to 4 feet for comfortable circulation around seated guests.
A table that seats four should be about 48" long. To seat four to six people, look for a table that is at least 60" long. For six to eight guests, your table should be at least 78" long. The rule of thumb is to allow 24" of space per seat at your dining table.
Round tables
If you are looking for something that on the whole takes up less space, then a round table is ideal. The aesthetic of a round dining room table not only gives the illusion of more space, but the softer, less angular lines give a more flowing, fluid look.
A 6-person dining room should be at least 9 x 12 feet (2.7 x 3.6 meters)That's assuming you don't have any other furniture in the room, like a buffet or a sideboard. However, the size I recommend is 14 x 16 feet (4.3 x 4.9 meters). It allows you to add some extra furniture and gives you more comfort.
A 10' x 14' storage unit typically provides 140 square feet of storage space, offering a relatively large area for storing various items.
For a comfortable standard bedroom layout, ensure the bedroom is at least 120 square feet to comfortably accommodate a full-size bed and allow for movement. Smaller rooms are another great place to incorporate multi-functional furniture or built-in storage solutions to maximize space.
The standard dining room table height is 28 to 32 inches tall.
30" Round Table - seats 3-4 guests. 36" Round Table - seats 4 guests. 42" Round Table - seats 4-5 guests. 48" Round Table - seats 5-6 guests.
2-seater dining room table size averages about 30 inches wide. A 4-seater dining room table averages 35-36 inches wide, like our Small Victorian Dining table. The average size of a 6-seater dining room table is roughly 52-60 inches wide. A good example of a dining table that size would be a Chippendale Round Table.
