When it comes to kitchen windows over a sink, casement windows are especially popular as they are easy to open and close, even in hard-to-reach spaces. Choose between a crank that folds away when not in use, or the Easy-Slide Operator that allows you to simply slide to open and close without the effort of cranking.
Casement windows are perhaps the best for placement over the kitchen sink, as they make opening and closing them a breeze.
Casement windows: The crank operation of a casement window makes it ideal for behind the kitchen sink. Consider French casements to customize your ventilation options, including having the ability to open the windows wide with no center post to block the view.
There is no right size, but typically a window above the sink lines up with the height of the cabinets on either side to give a cohesive look and keep the line of sight. Measure the area between each cabinet and that is how large the window will be.
Waterproof roller blinds made of PVC or vinyl are the blinds that I personally consider to be the best blinds for a window above a kitchen sink. Any of the options I mentioned above will be fine, but the best choice for my money is waterproof rollers, for a few reasons.
If you have windows in the splash zone, we recommend choosing a PVC based window treatment, which is water safe and easy to clean. Some great options are faux wood blinds, faux wood shutters and vinyl roller shades. They won't warp with heat and humidity changes and can be wiped clean with soap and water.
Kitchen Windows Should be Easy to Use
You don't want them to be difficult to open too. You want a window that's easy to open. Preferably, you be able to open them with one finger. That way, no matter how short you are or how deep your sink/counter tops are, you can still open your kitchen windows.
Many designers agree that centering a kitchen sink under a window is the optimum placement, it often looks tailored and well-planned, however, this is not always practical. If you have a small kitchen with very little room for large reconfigurations, you may have more limited options in terms of optimum sink placement.
“Sinks are usually in front of a window because there aren't any cabinets above it, making it easy to maneuver around,” said Christopher. “However, the sink can be placed elsewhere and still be very functional and beautiful. For example, a lot of time a sink in an island makes sense even when you have a window .”
WHAT SIZE KITCHEN WINDOW? The size of your kitchen window will largely depend on the space you have available. At a minimum, however, the ideal standard measurements are 24 x 36 inches (609.6 x 914.4mm).
Among the homeowners and architects, the standard width is 24′′, 30′′, and 36′′ and the most common height is 48″, 60″, and 72″.
You should use a sliding window to fit a wide space – they are, by very nature, not suitable for windows that are longer vertically than horizontally. They fit well into larger rooms like a living room or dining room, or rooms that require more natural light, like the kitchen.

In terms of operable windows, hinged-sash windows such as casement and awning windows are typically the most energy efficient as they create a firm weathertight seal when closed.
For this, one needs to know their cabinet's height —34.5-inch traditionally— and the countertop's thickness— generally 1.5 inches. The height of the window, therefore, should be kept at 37-inch. I hope now you know about the kitchen window dimensions.
Items not recommended to store under the sink
Harsh chemicals, bug spray, paper towels, waxes, carpet shampoo, drain cleaners, polishes and paints. Even some cleaning products, including dishwasher pods and colorful spray bottles, can be dangerous and entice curiosities for paws or tiny fingers.
