While ornamental details like cornice or crown moulding may frame a room, a ceiling medallion commands even more attention overhead, as a centerpiece surrounding a hanging light fixture.
Ceiling moulding, also known as crown moulding or cornice, runs along the top of a room where the wall meets the ceiling. It softens the transition from wall to ceiling. Crown moulding can be simple or intricately detailed. These types of moulding trim can make a room look polished.
Canopy. The canopy may not be the very first part of a lighting fixture that you notice, but it's certainly capable of grabbing your attention. It's the part of the fixture mounted to the wall or ceiling that covers the electrical box.

Crown molding
Crown molding is literally what you think—an overhead crowning touch that flares out in the space where the walls and ceiling meet. Also known as cornice molding, it may be elaborate, with decorative cutouts, or simple and linear (Shaker) in design.
They both serve as the “cap” or “crown” to a wall or cabinet and can be modern and simple or elaborate and decorative. However, crown moulding is strictly an interior design element, unlike cornice, which we see in exterior and interior designs. You may also see crown moulding used with cornice in interior design.
Trim moulding: General term used for mouldings used to create added detail or cover up gaps, including corner mouldings, cove mouldings, rope mouldings, quarter rounds, and accent mouldings.
A linear batten light is a type of lighting fixture that consists of a long, slender tube or strip-shaped luminaire that typically mounts directly onto the ceiling or wall. These fixtures are often used for providing general lighting in large spaces such as offices, classrooms, or retail environments.

A goof ring also known as a trim ring, goof plate or a ceiling medallion is a custom cut white or black acrylic solution. There are also stock size goof rings and trim plates made of metal. The goof ring should be at least one inch wider in diameter than the actual fixture.
