Now halfway through 2022, it has become clear that people are being drawn back to a more natural look and feel for their flooring. Does this mean that your gray floors are “out of style” now? Not to worry. Gray flooring will always have its place in modern homes and buildings, and shouldn't be thrown out just yet.
Is gray flooring a good idea? Overall, gray flooring is always a good idea for use throughout the home. Working with a neutral color such as gray offers a versatile foundation that can stand the test of time in an interior space.
In the past few years, gray flooring has become a default option among many developers. Designers and architects think the vast grayness is a result of the past decade's dominating minimalist aesthetic, as well as developers viewing it as a safe and inoffensive option.
Despite many people betting the grey flooring trend was not going to last more than a couple of years, look where we are almost a decade later. Psychologically speaking, grey represents calmness and neutrality. This color doesn't revive or energize, it actually goes unseen.
Neutral shades such as light brown, gray, and black are timeless classics that will look good for years to come. These hues make a great backdrop for any room in your home, so you can easily accessorize the space without worrying about the color clashing with your floors.
A con to using gray flooring would be the potential for gray flooring to go out of style if classic brown shades of hardwood come back on top in the future. Gray can also sometimes lack the warmth of wood colored flooring.
#4: Light Neutral Colors
Another top flooring trend in 2023? Light and neutral flooring. Modern grey wood flooring continues to be popular, as are light floor colors like blonde and beige. A great way to add these lighter flooring shades to your home or business is to use bamboo flooring.
Dark colored hardwood floors are highly sought after by home buyers because they match modern styles. Lighter hardwood floors don't have that same appeal to many buyers, but buying quality hardwood can help. Use a discerning eye when choosing your hardwood floor and stain type.
You can use light grey floors to make rooms feel airy and expansive, perfect for enhancing an open floorplan. Conversely, darker grey floors will help make spaces feel more intimate. Looking to create dramatic contrast? Consider using a dark grey floor to contrast bright furnishings or light-colored walls.
Finally, given the tone of light floors, they tend to appear cleaner longer. Light-colored flooring often shows less dust, debris than do dark floors and pesky, inevitable scratches and damage will be less obvious.
If you're looking for cool shades for your hardwood floors in 2023, look no further! Light tans, and browns with hints of grey or white will be popular as well as whitewashed finishes. Meanwhile, yellow-toned shades are moving out of favor.
Wide plank floors are making a comeback.
Wide plank is on the rise again, and Broxson notes that recent trends include red and white oak wide plank floors. She says we'll see more light and almost bleached tones and dark espresso colors coming back, as well.
ARE GRAY-WASH WOOD OR WOOD-LOOK FLOORS STILL TRENDY? Heck no. The gray trend started about eight-ten years ago, and while it's had a GREAT run, its time is up. These days, instead of gray-wash floors, my clients are leaning into more natural woods in light to medium depths.
You might think “gym floor” or the strip oak floors that graced so many homes over the last 30 years. Floors with a white finish go with almost everything. A light burlap-like color is a great choice because you still get a light floor, without installing a truly “white” floor.
Darker floors are better suited for larger rooms and open floor plans. Another seemingly unrelated factor to consider is how often you clean your floors. Light hardwood flooring can hide small flaws, dirt, and debris, but anything larger will be very noticeable.
Best known as the traditional color of hardwood flooring, shades of brown are still as popular as ever. Much like tan-toned hardwood, brown flooring is suited for any aesthetic. Lighter tones can set the basis of a neutral design, while deeper tones have the power to convey depth and luxury.
Wood effect flooring remains in high demand and the characteristics of Luxury Vinyl Tile make it a great choice for the home (and a great choice for your bank balance!). In 2023 wood effect planks/tile colours lean toward whitewashed, grey, light brown and two tone combinations as well as cool toned darker woods.
Hardwood Floor Colors 2023
Those who adore pale, dark, and honey-colored wood have options among the "it" colors of 2023. Interior designers came through for everyone this year with an option for hardwood in every color scheme.
50 Floor researched the most popular flooring trends of the year, and we found that homeowners are choosing dark wood, light wood and grey wood flooring color options. Many flooring options, such as luxury vinyl and hardwood, give a classic and traditional look that is functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Do grey and brown go together? Of course, they do! It's one of the classic combos.
So, what flooring looks cleanest? Typically, lighter color woods show less dirt and dust. Dark floors can easily show dust, while lighter floors mask it. Similarly, matte floors show less smudges, foot and paw prints than high gloss flooring.
