The fuse has blown for the control circuit or module of the keyless entry system. Refer to your owner's manual for the corresponding fuse, locate the fuse box, and then test the fuse. Use a test light while the fuse is in place or remove the fuse completely to do a continuity test using a multimeter.
This usually happens because of low batteries, but shock can also cause the fob to lose its pairing. Most remotes can be reset, so check your car's user manual for the resetting sequence. If resetting fails to solve the problem, the fob will need to be reprogrammed.
Yes. A number of fuses could effect the car's key and ignition interaction. If you notice the fuse blown and the vehicle still starts properly, then the blown fuse more than likely would not effect the key and ignition interaction in the future.
Remote keyless systems consist of a key fob transmitter and a receiver inside the vehicle. They most commonly use a frequency of 315MHz in the the U.S. and Japan, and 433.92MHz in Europe. Europe has also opened up the 868MHz band to accommodate the growing demand for remote keyless entry systems.
Once you've removed the fuse box lid, the inside of the lid (or the owner's manual) should have a diagram showing the functions of various fuses. Look for the one corresponding to the door locks. You might need pliers or tweezers to pull it out (some carmakers supply a pulling tool on the inside of the fuse box lid).
A faulty central locking system might be due to several reasons, such as a blown fuse, faulty solenoid, or electrical wiring issues. Also, it's good to remember the fault might not be with the central car locking system but the key fob instead; over time, fobs require battery changes.
ABS FUSE BOX
The fuse box for the ABS is located in the engine compartment on the passenger's side.
Keyless remotes contain a short-range radio transmitter, and must be within a certain range, usually 5–20 meters, of the car to work. When a button is pushed, it sends a coded signal by radio waves to a receiver unit in the car, which locks or unlocks the door.
A Motion sensor car fob will go into sleep mode after being inactive for 40 seconds, which prevents any criminals from getting the cars signal.
There's typically no limit on how far a keyless car can drive without a key once it's started up. In many cases, criminals will steal the car and run it until it's out of fuel or they've reached their destination.
The most common issue is the battery running out of charge and needing to be replaced. In most cases, a car key fob will last many years, but if it is used more frequently then you could end up having to buy one. This can easily be done at a local garage, tech shop or by yourself at home.
A blown fuse could be the cause of door locks not working. This is fairly easy and inexpensive to fix by a mechanic.
If your key fob isn't working and you're locked out of your car, use the manual key hidden in the fob or contact a locksmith or roadside assistance for help.
Reset the Lock
If your electronic door lock isn't working, and a fresh battery or cleaning hasn't helped, try resetting it to factory settings. A reset can often clear up any software bugs or glitches that may be blocking the system.
Your car waits for a signal from the fob and thieves can grab fob signals. Wrapping the fob in tinfoil decreases the strength of the signal and the range of the fob. This means you'll need to be closer to your car to start it. But it also means potential thieves can't steal the signal from an inconspicuous distance.
If the fob is too close to your car, it can continue to communicate with it, which could drain the battery.
Either the antenna, wiring, or faulty module may fail. Depending how the design of your vehicles system, you may have a separate antenna which can fail, any wiring may become faulty, connections can corrode or in a rare situation the module can fail completely.
While car key remotes do have impressively long battery lives, the time will at some point come when they need replacing and renewing. It's likely to be a fault with the batteries if the buttons on the key need to be pressed multiple times before working, or if the key is working sometimes but not constantly.
The anti-theft fuse is typically in the fuse box on the driver's side. Depending on the vehicle's specifications, the anti-theft fuse can also be found under the hood and behind the air filter. You can use a fuse puller or a pair of pliers to disable the alarm.
It's a regular fuse rated for 15 Amps in most Hondas and Acuras, and is responsible for providing power to fuel pump relay, fuel pump, fuel injectors, and PCM via the Programed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) relay. Also known as the “Main Relay". If your ACG fuse is blowing, let me know, and I will help you find the short.
