You should avoid placing soaking wet clothes in most dryers. If you pack your dryer with soaked clothes, you run several risks. First, the clothes might not get fully dry, causing a musty smell. Second, you might damage the bearings on your dryer.
It's best not to place soaking wet clothes directly into the dryer, since pooling water can damage the internal mechanisms of the dryer, and the extra water weight will increase the wear and tear on the machine. However, wringing out the clothes by hand will usually remove enough water to make the clothes dryable.
In general, you can leave your wet clothes for a maximum of eight to twelve hours, according to an expert from the Whirlpool Institute of Fabric Science.
Do clothes shrink in the washer or the dryer? Clothes may shrink in the washer if they are washed in a hot water cycle with heavy agitation, as well as in a dryer in high-heat settings that may cause overdrying. As a rule of thumb, high temperatures increase the likelihood of clothes shrinking in your laundry routine.
If you want your laundry to go straight from the washing machine to the dryer, make sure they are of the same capacity. This will turn washing and drying into a hassle-free chore, especially when you are washing more than one batch.
Excess moisture – Natural fibers like cotton, linen and silk can also be prone to a condition known as relaxation shrinkage. This happens when these absorbent fibers are exposed to water, which causes the fibers to swell and the overall size of the garment to decrease.
Typically, a gas or electric dryer should take about 30 to 45 minutes to dry a full load of clothes. Dense fabrics—like a quilt or a load of thick bath towels—may take up to an hour to dry. If your dryer's taking too long to dry your laundry, it's important to figure out what's wrong instead of ignoring it.
Are they safe to use? It's tempting to fire up the washer and dryer after a storm if you have wet clothes, linens or other washables, but don't do it. Water—even clean water—can damage the inner workings of the appliance, including the motor. Call a qualified service and repair expert to assess the damage.
How long can you leave wet washing for? If damp clothes or bedding have been left in the washing machine or a basket for more than 8-12 hours we recommend giving it another wash. If it's been over 12 hours it's a safe bet that they will need to be re-washed.

Clogged Dryer Vents
If your dryer takes two cycles to dry your clothes (or more!), it's possible that the vent between your home and the dryer is clogged. When the dryer vent gets clogged with lint and dust, it can't expel hot air properly, which will cause the clothes to take longer to dry.
In most scenarios, all you need is a container full of warm water with a capful of liquid detergent. Next, make sure to add in your clothes and stir them into the solution until they are completely soaked. Gently wring out the clothing to expel excess liquid and gently stretch the clothing back to its original size.
A dark, wet environment like a washing machine is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and mildew to thrive. These can build up in your clothing as time goes on, eventually leaving them with a permanent odor.
Never leave a dryer running when you're away from home, and never leave it running while you're sleeping.
You should never put bras, gym clothes, and swimwear in the clothes dryer. Spandex and other elastic materials are great for wearing comfort, but they often don't do that well in a dryer. The high temperatures can damage the material, breaking it down and ruining the shape of your clothes.
Warmer air holds more water, so higher temperatures reduce the relative humidity, which help clothes dry faster.
Throw a dry bath towel in with the garments you need dried quickly. The towel will absorb some of the moisture, making your items dry faster. Remember to take out the towel after around 5 minutes, if you are drying just a few items, or 15 minutes for a full load.
Assuming that you use the fastest spin speed, an average load of washing can dry in as little as 4 hours on a hot and breezy day. The same load could take 6 hours on a cooler but breezy day. The worst weather for drying clothes is a cool and still day.

With continuous overdrying, the sleeves and pants of your clothes will keep getting shorter as they steadily shrink. Additionally, consistently leaving your clothes for too long in the tumble dryer could cause them to fade faster than they would otherwise.
To try out even more ways of drying clothes more quickly, consider adding a dry towel to the dryer for about five minutes, or try using dryer balls with your next load. Tossing a towel in with your laundry may help absorb moisture and can possibly help speed up drying times.
