Bar Keepers Friend's main ingredient is oxalic acid. It's a mild acid that works wonders on rust, mineral buildup, and stubborn stains. That's why it's so good at making stainless steel shine and getting rid of hard water spots. Ajax, on the other hand, is more of a traditional scrubbing powder.
#1 Comet. Comet is probably the closest Ajax alternative in terms of look, feel, and how you use it. It is that classic powder-in-a-can style cleaner that you shake onto a wet sponge or surface, then scrub it out. If you're already comfortable with Ajax, this will feel exactly the same.
#2 Bon Ami
The best part is that it's non-abrasive, so it won't scratch surfaces the way some harsher cleaners can. If you're looking for a more environmentally friendly alternative to Bar Keepers Friend, Bon Ami is definitely worth considering.
Never mix Ajax and Comet with Bar Keeper's Friend. Bleach plus acid creates a toxic chlorine gas.
It's not supposed to be used on carpet and rug stains. And please, never think about using it for bathing or shampooing. Also, don't use it as a replacement for Laundry Detergent. Never use your dish liquid in an automatic dishwasher (the suds will overflow), and never ever mix your dish liquid with bleach or ammonia.
Disadvantages of AJAX
Ajax's most persistent failure has been that of safety. Hundreds of soldiers involved in testing the AVs suffered injuries linked to excessive noise and vibration ('N&V'). This includes hearing damage, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus and swollen joints.
The main difference between Bar Keepers Friend and Ajax is that Bar Keepers Friend is better for removing stains, rust, and hard water buildup, and it's gentler on delicate surfaces like stainless steel and glass. Ajax is more abrasive, and better at scrubbing and cutting through grease and grime.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
Baking soda is also a mild abrasive, so it will remove stains and grime from your toilet bowl. To clean your toilet, use one cup of baking soda with two cups of white vinegar. Brush it into the bowl, let it sit for five minutes, then flush again with the water on full force.
For day to day cleaning, non-abrasive cleaners are safe. Stains and light scratches will require a mildly aggressive cleaner such as Flitz or Shiny Sinks Plus. For stubborn stains and noticeable scratches, more aggressive cleaners are suggested such as Bar Keepers Friend, Zud, Ajax, Comet or Never Dull.
BKF cleans and polishes most hard, nonporous surfaces. However, never use BKF on the following: cast iron, granite, marble, wood, fabric, leather, or painted surfaces. Although many of our fans have used BKF on mirrors, gold, and silver (sterling silver is OK), we advise against it.

Instead of Ajax, I use the Pure Haven Scrubbing Cleanser. It is mildly abrasive and smells so good!

How to remove brown stains from toilet bowls

Dawn is more versatile than Ajax. Dawn is kind of a jack-of-all-trades. It works for washing dishes, cleaning greasy spots on clothes, and even cleaning greasy stains around the house. It's also pretty famous for being a go-to for cleaning pets if they've had a run-in with oil or something similar.
