A common solution for artists if they want the hue of a certain pigment which is transparent, but they wish it to be opaque, is to add a small amount of Titanium White. The key is to add enough to add some opacity without lightening the colour too much.
Work in Layers
Painting a transparent color on top of a lighter layer can really help it pop. Additionally, you can paint over the transparent color a few times to increase the opacity even if it's on a darker background.
To make acrylic paintings more vibrant, mastering the glazing technique is essential. This involves applying thin, translucent layers of paint over a dry layer to create depth and luminosity. Start by mixing a small amount of pigment with a generous amount of matte medium to form a smooth glaze.
Adding water to your acrylic paints or airbrush paint will cause the paint to be more translucent and make the paint less adhesive. The surface you're painting on does make a difference, but the paint you're using makes the biggest difference.

Using too much water on your acrylic paints can result in a loss of adhesion. This means that your paint may become too watery and simply flow off your canvas or muddy up your colors when you try to blend them. You can avoid this by using acrylic mediums instead.
The brightest. And the most opaque. Meet titanium white, the art world's favorite go-to pigment for power. This metallic oxide is produced from rutile, a naturally occurring mineral ore found in the ground in regions like Scandinavia.
Acrylic Paint Instructions and Tips. You don't 'need' to start with a wet brush, but if you want your paint to glide smoothly then it's best to have the bristles wet. I just quickly dip my brush in water, it doesn't have to be soaking wet.
The secret ingredient of a good flow painting is the pouring medium. Acrylic paint is too thick to pour and move easily across a canvas, so you need to add a liquid to help it. The pouring medium also stops the colours from mixing together too much, and the bought ones often give a high gloss finish.
Glazing with acrylic paint can offer your artwork a truly luminous quality and it's a fairly simple process. The layers of paint create a thicker film of semi-transparent acrylic that helps to enhance the colours that you are using.

This basecoat allows you to actually blend and mix colors right on the canvas rather than working ourselves to death on the palette. The Liquid White can also be used to thin other colors for application over thicker paints. The idea that a thin paint will stick to a thick paint is the basis for this entire technique.
