Place your laundry into the tub and let it soak, stirring occasionally, for about four hours or until the water has completely cooled. The dirt and residue should release into the water, offering that gross-yet-satisfying visual. Drain the water and wring out excess liquid from the items.
Once the garments are submerged, allow them to soak in the solution for 15 to 60 minutes, depending on how visibly dirty the fabric is.
Baking soda: Baking soda can be used for grease and oil stains, both during the pretreatment for stain removal and during the soak. For pretreatment, sprinkle the baking soda on the stain, and then soak it in white vinegar. Before putting it into the washing machine, scrub the clothes thoroughly with dish soap.
Presoak Heavily Soiled Clothing
Even stains that have had time to set will loosen somewhat while they soak in water. Presoak laundry from the "very dirty" basket or clothing with perspiration odor for an hour in an enzyme detergent dissolved in water before running the regular cycle.
Submerge your clothes and allow items to soak for up to 30 minutes. For knits and woolens, use Wool & Cashmere Shampoo, and for delicates use a delicate detergent. Be sure not to soak these fabrics for longer than 30 minutes, as too much water exposure can begin to break down or warp these items.
Is It Okay to Leave Wet Laundry in the Washer Overnight? While it's best practice to place your garments in the dryer or on the clothesline right after the cycle finishes, it's perfectly okay to leave your wet clothes in the washer overnight, Martha says.
How long can you leave wet washing for? If damp clothes or bedding have been left in the washing machine or a basket for more than 8-12 hours we recommend giving it another wash. If it's been over 12 hours it's a safe bet that they will need to be re-washed.

Most other clothing odors, like those left behind by bodily fluids or sickness, can be neutralized by soaking clothing items in a sink filled with water, plus a mixture of vinegar or baking soda. Get Rid of Strong Odors

Does laundry stripping work? Laundry stripping is effective because of its chemical solution of Borax, powdered detergent and washing soda along with extra hot water. This method will indeed break down build-up on clothes, but it could also leach out dye and naturally-occurring oils in fabric.
