Dishwashers need to have at least 2 feet of space between them and the wall. This is due to how hot the machine can get while it is running and the moisture it emits. Having a dishwasher too close to the wall will quickly result in mold and mildew building up on the sheetrock or paneling.
Corner locations need at least 2 inches of space between the side of the dishwasher door (when open) and the wall or cabinet. Check for any obstructions that would cause the dishwasher motor to touch the floor of the opening, such as carpeting or loose, uneven tile.
The dishwasher should never be placed right next to a wall oven that has been installed beneath the counter. You need to ensure there is at least 24 inches of clearance between these appliances. When in doubt about the 2-inch clearance, leave a clearance of 24 inches between these appliances to be safe.
Most of the undercounter dishwashers measure approximately 24 inches in width, 24 inches in depth, and 35 inches in height with a variety of feet. The opening in your cabinets must be at least 24 by 24 inches.
Generally you need a couple of centimeters of free space behind your dishwasher to fit the drainage hose, water hose, and to allow for a bit of ventilation room.

A Dishwasher can be installed next to a Free-Standing, Slide-In or Drop-In Range as long as there is at least 2" of clearance between the two appliances. The 2" clearance is needed for heat dissipation.
Dishwasher to sink distance: From the dishwasher to the sink, the distance should be no more than 36 inches.
Ideally, a dishwasher should stick out 1.5″ from the counter. In the case of the top controller dishwasher, it sticks out 2-3″.
Therefore, the correct positioning is to set the front of the dishwasher – not the door – flush with the front of the cabinets. The door protrudes just enough so that the contact point between the door and the front of the dishwasher is visible.
The profile of the dishwasher is slightly different than a regular one. It dips down lower in the back to fit under the sink. This makes the back half of the top rack lower than the front half. The bottom rack is the same as a regular dishwasher.
No Walkway Behind the Kitchen Island or Peninsula
If there is no walkway behind the island or peninsula, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) recommends a minimum of 32″ of clearance space between the edge of the countertop or table to any wall or other obstruction behind the seating area.
You can install a dishwasher into any a kitchen island if there is room. Some islands have accessible plumbing and electrical fixtures, and some don't. For freestanding islands, the cost of plumbing under the home is cost-prohibitive, but if absolutely necessary, it can be done as well.
Step 2: Measure for dishwasher depth
Measure from the back of the opening to the front. Make sure to leave enough room (at least 27 inches) in front of the dishwasher to comfortably load and unload dishes, plus enough room to move around between the open door and any counters and islands.
Should I include pipes when measuring for a dishwasher? Yes, leave around 5cm of space between the back of your dishwasher and the wall for the pipes to go.

All in all, it is not recommended that you install your dishwasher under your sink because you need to allow for space for the plumbing. If you do, you will need to purchase a dishwasher designed to go under the sink. You should install your dishwasher close to a sink so that the plumbing is easier to connect.
Dishwashers should be placed next to the kitchen sink – either on the right or left-hand side – as well as being close to storage units. It is also important to ensure that your dishwasher placement allows freedom of movement.
In a small kitchen, a single drawer can be installed near the kitchen sink in a space normally reserved for a cabinet drawer. For a bigger kitchen, you may want a standard or two-drawer dishwasher near your sink and range, and a single drawer on the island or in the butler's pantry.
