Build a support frame
To install the sink properly, you'll need to build a frame out of 2x4s to support the weight. To retain as much usable cabinet space as possible, we built the frame by screwing 2x4s right to the sides of the base cabinet. This kept the framing from eating into the storage space below the sink.
SUPPORT IS NECESSARY
You will need to set aside some budget to properly secure and support your farmhouse sink, as added support is typically required beneath. There are many ways to do this, and this is typically advised from the provided sink specifications that come with your new apron sink.
With a tap brace, the tap is effectively secured to the underside of the strut and not to the underside of the sink to reduce the tendency for the sink to flex, particularly when the tap is turned on or off.
Fireclay sinks will require extra support and modification to existing cabinets. Important: Sinkology Fireclay sinks require a solid support built into the cabinet and recommend professional installation. We recommend an undermount install with a frame supporting the underside of the sink.
Because farmhouse sinks are pretty heavy, you'll need to add support to the inside of the cabinet to be able to hold the weight. You can do this by adding two two-by-four pieces of wood to the sides horizontally.
Fireclay Sinks
These sinks are extremely popular these days and understandably so. Fireclay is made when clay and glaze are fused together at extremely high temperatures. This creates a highly durable material that is hard and resistant to chips and cracks.
However, there are some key differences between the two types of sinks. Apron sinks are generally smaller than farmhouse sinks. They are available in various materials, including stainless steel, copper, and porcelain. Apron sinks are available in different styles, including single-bowl and double-bowl options.
A farmhouse sink makes it easy to wash larger items like pots, pans, and baking sheets. You can easily soak your cookware in a farmhouse style sink as opposed to a standard-sized sink. It's also a great option if you prefer to soak a lot of dishes at once before you wash them or pop them in the dishwasher.
Countertop Cutout Fits the Apron
You will also need a custom or farmhouse-fit countertop with a larger open-front sink cutout for a farmhouse sink. The cutout in the countertop must match both the apron width and then the sink width in order of installation.
Whether you have a shining copper sink or a gleaming fireclay basin, the most reliable solution is a sink grid placed in the bottom of your Farmhouse sink.
Your existing cabinets should be strong enough that they can easily bear the weight and size and can comfortably accommodate the new sink. However, if you follow the right steps and instructions, you can easily install a farmhouse sink in your existing cabinets without even some professional assistance.
Most farmhouse sinks stick out past the face of the cabinets from . 75 of an inch to as many as 2 inches.
A porcelain farmhouse sink is a highly coveted kitchen feature—and for good reason. Farmhouse sinks are beautiful, spacious, and timeless, plus they add a distinctive look to any kitchen they're placed in.

The two top contenders are either a enamel-coated cast iron or a fireclay apron sink. Both are very strong materials, and both have been used for hundreds of years to make not only sinks but also structural building materials and tools for extreme temperatures.
The sink sits on top of the countertop and is held in place by a rim or lip that sits around the edge of the sink and rests on the countertop. Below the countertop are clips to hold the sink firmly in place.
Most farmhouse sinks can be installed in 3 ways: Flush mount Installation: Where the sink sits in level to the countertop. Built-up Installation: Where the sink sits above the level of the countertop.
OVERHANG - The countertop extends over the edge of the sink on all sides by approximately 1/8" - 1/4". Use caution with this installation to be sure that accessories such as colanders or cutting boards will fit properly. REVEAL - The countertop edge sits approximately 1/8" - 1/4" back from the edgeof the sink rim.
It's no surprise that due to its functional design and timeless and elegant appeal that the fireclay farmhouse sink has made a resurgence among homeowners in America too.
