Lightly sand the entire countertop with 100-150 grit sandpaper. Use a small foam roller to roll a coat of oil-based primer over the counters. Allow the primer to dry completely and then lightly sand the surface with 220 grit sandpaper. Roll a coat of white paint onto the countertops and allow it to dry.
Use a Countertop Paint Kit
You can purchase paint kits that allow you to update the look of your countertops. The product is simple to use and can give you the look of stone for less than hundred dollars. If you want a new look, but don't want to spend a lot of money, painting your countertops is a great option.
If you like the layout of your laminate kitchen counters, then you should consider refinishing. Refinishing can completely restore your laminate countertops to a like-new condition and feel. And dozens of colors and textures are available to you, including a stone look using Miracle Method's Natural Accents.
Laminate that Looks Like Quartz
Synonymous with laminate countertops, Formica offers countless styles and colors. If you like the look of quartz, this Bottle Glass Quartz style from Formica may be what you're looking for. Make your countertops look like new with this unique refinishing process.
Many recommend a water-based acrylic primer, paint and top coat. Acrylic paint dries to provide the hard surface needed for heavy-use areas like countertops, while water-based acrylic paint cleans up with water and is low on odors. Either way, you'll want to create proper ventilation in your kitchen while painting.
From what I've read, a concrete skim-coat would transform my laminate without having to remove or rebuild the counters. It's applied straight on top of the laminate in troweled-on layers. And it is inexpensive. Perfect!
What Are Epoxy Countertops? Epoxy is primarily used as a refinishing product. Applying a coating of this material can help restore or revitalize old, worn, or out-of-style bathroom countertops, kitchen countertops, and floors.
To use car wax to make laminate countertops shine, it should be applied in circular motions across a clean countertop and left for around 10 minutes. Then, with a clean cloth, excess wax should be buffed away. Car wax not only gives a shiny, granite-like finish to Formica countertops, but it acts as a protectant.
Faux granite paint can be applied on top of your existing kitchen or bathroom countertop. It can also be applied directly to plaster walls, exposed brick, fireplace surrounds and table tops. With a few steps and a few days, your old laminate or Formica countertop will resemble a hard, glossy granite.
1. Formica Carrara Bianco. Carrara Bianco is definitely my fave these days. Mimicking the LOOK of marble, it has a gorgeous white base with subtle gray veining.
Nearly any type of counter can be overlaid, as long as it is strong enough to support the overlay: tile, laminate, stainless steel, granite, quartz, concrete, and wood.
When you are desperately wanting to give your laminate countertops - in kitchen or bathroom - a new look, spray paint offers an affordable option over epoxy paint. However, while spray painting will give a lasting makeover, it's not a permanent one.
Lay Laminate Over the Countertop
If you have old laminate (Formica, Wilsonart, etc.) countertops that have square edges, you can cover them with a layer of new laminate, which is sold in sheets up to 5 feet wide and 12 feet long.
The idea is to use a combination of black primer and mineral paints of various color tones to mimic the natural appearance of granite.
Re-laminating a countertop costs $200 to $650. Expect to pay $100 to $300 for materials and an additional $35 to $85 per hour for labor. You can re laminate post-formed surfaces with square edges. You'll need to replace pre-formed types.
Cover with Tile.
If your laminate countertops are in less-than-ideal condition, or if painting over them doesn't appeal to you, there is still hope! Simply tile over them. Tiling is a relatively inexpensive alternative to solid countertops, and with the huge variety of available tiles, you can create any look you want.
