A barrel slide bolt is a security lock for your sliding barn door. This means you can lock your sliding barn door from either side. If you want to lock the barn door from the outside, you can use the key to engage the lock. If you'd rather lock it from the inside, then you can use the bolt portion to engage the lock.
Double-cylinder locksets are keyed on both sides; they function with a key from both the exterior and the interior of the door. This means that a home or business owner would need to use a key to engage or retract the lock bolt even from the inside.
You can definitely put two single doors together! That's what we did and it worked out great.

Yes, you do. Barn doors need handles. They slide easily on the sliding tracks, but you need a pull on one side and a recessed or flush handle on the other side. Sliding barn doors could be heavy.
Double track bypassing sliding door hardware kits offer greater flexibility than single track bypass barn door hardware, but require more clearance above the doorway. Many people prefer the look of the single track bypass barn doors, but they aren't quite as dynamic as the double bypass barn door hardware.
These doors are double sided and can be used in an entryway or window that is exposed on both sides (unlike a closet or pantry). With the right tools, these doors are easy and inexpensive to make. You can check out my website for more free plans and projects!
Although single-hung barn doors are not meant to be locked, you have nothing to worry about as you can easily install a hook and eye closure to make them more private. All you have to do is attach the loop portion of the lock to the wall and the hook to the side of your single-hung barn door.
One simple type designed to secure sliding doors is called a two-bolt locking system. You can find these locks online or in a reputable hardware store. They are simple to install and can be installed at any height on the door.
It's quite useful to have two locks in the door separating the house/apartment from the surrounding world but use just one of them. Locks happen to break, although that's quite rare. If one of the locks starts malfunctioning you can just stop using it and use the other one until you fix the first one.
The way to double lock your UPVC door is to first shut the door securely, push the handle up to engage further bolts, and finally use the key to lock it. The only way to keep intruders out of your home is by using the key to lock the door securely after you have pushed the handle up.
Some door locks are designed to be turned twice for added security. Sometimes they are an anti picking feature because after you pick the lock and turn it, the pins will reset and you will have to pick it again.
Bypass barn doors are especially useful for closets and pantries where adjacent wall space is limited, and you only need access to half of the doorway at a given time. Bypass doors are different than double barn doors, which cannot slide behind each other and still require more wall space.
Installing a Barn Door on an Existing Wall
To safely mount the door, you will need a header board to carry the load of the door without having to open the drywall to modify the studs. It's very important that you only use clear straight lumber for the head casing.
Barn doors should overlap openings by at least an 1″ preferably 2″ on each side. Or if you like the look of a wider door you can overlap as much as you want!
The hangers are used to attach the door panels to the wheels. Hangers are mounted to the door panels by screws or bolts. Because each hanger is mounted on a separate track, they bypass each other, creating a double sliding door that can open from both the right and left.
Inspect your sliding closet door track and either vacuum or brush out any debris, gunk or dirty in there. Carpet fibers and dust are the most common. If heavy objects have been moved in and out of the closet, the metal track may have been damaged, and not providing a smooth, even guide for the wheel to roll along.
Grab a hammer, a few scraps of wood, a large nail and a shim. Take them into the room and close the door. Stick the shim loosely between the door and the jamb to hold the door in position when you drive out the upper hinge pin. Then bend the pin slightly with a firm whack.
