Locate the reset button on the ice maker. It's located on the bottom of the ice maker on most Whirlpool models. Push and hold the reset button for five seconds. You may need to use a pen or a similar tool to press the reset button if it is recessed.
Turn The Ice Maker Off and On Again
This is a simple matter of resetting the power to your ice maker. By flipping the switch off and back on, you may be able to reset the functionality so that your ice maker begins to dispense ice again.
A clogged filter can send less water to the ice maker, which may cause a decrease or halt in ice production. Solution: Be sure to change your refrigerator's water filter once every six months, and be on the lookout for signs of an old filter.
You can force the icemaker to go through a cycle if the icemaker isn't bad. To do that, you need to pry the front white plastic cover off the icemaker. Put a jumper wire between holes labeled "T" and "H" on the head of the icemaker. Then push the freezer door light switch in and the icemaker should start cycle.
The most common causes are: The water fill tubes are blocked. The water inlet valve is blocked or frozen. The water filter is dirty or clogged.
If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset. If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes. Then, power it back up and try again.
If your ice maker isn't producing ice at all or is producing crescents or cubes that are smaller than usual, it's typically indicative of a clog somewhere along the supply line. Cause: A common cause for a clog is frozen water in the line. Fix: To repair a frozen line, slide the refrigerator and unplug it.
To reset the ice maker, unplug the refrigerator for 1 minute. After resetting, wait a couple of hours and check for ice production; ice is in the bin.
Most Whirlpool refrigerators have a reset button on the ice maker, and pressing it will cause the ice maker to reset and return to working as normal.
Reset your refrigerator: First, unplug it (or turn off the power at the circuit breaker), and then wait about five minutes for the electrical charge to clear out of it. Then, power it back on again.
If it's not clear, you need to remove the ice bucket and point a hair dryer above the ice maker toward the back to thaw out the fill tube until you can blow through it (keep the hair dryer moving so nothing melts). If the water line is clear on the other hand, replace the water valve.
First, remove the ice bucket and the covering from the front of the ice maker. Some models have a button you will need to push to remove the ice tray and cover. Others will just require you to pull it off. Once the ice tray and covering have been removed, locate and press the ice maker reset button for about 3 seconds.
Once the cubes are pushed out, the arm falls again. When the arm reaches its lowest point, it flips a circuit switch, activating the water valve to begin another cycle. If the arm cannot reach its lowest position, it will not activate the cycle, which will keep your ice collection bin from overflowing.
The blockage in the ice maker can be the main reason it isn't making ice. The ice maker can freeze over time or become clogged with a build-up of ice and frost. Check if the ice maker's assembly has an accumulation of ice, debris, or any other obstructing material.
Unplug your refrigerator
Disconnect your fridge from its power source by removing the power cord from the wall outlet. You may hear some whooshing or knocking noises after you do so; that's normal. Make sure your fridge stays unplugged for several minutes, otherwise the reset won't work.
There are several reasons your ice maker may suddenly stop working, including a blocked water dispenser, issues with your water supply line or a clogged water filter.
Once the ice maker has been connected to a power and water source (aka the plumbing line connected to the back of your refrigerator), the ice maker cycle should begin automatically. At the beginning of the cycle, an electrical signal is sent to a water valve to fill the ice mold with water.
If the dispenser is dispensing water but not ice, check if the ice maker is making ice. Ice maker is making ice, but not dumping it into the ice bin try resetting the Ice Maker. To reset the ice maker, unplug the refrigerator for 1 minute.
