Vent your garage outdoors If you spend a lot of time in the garage working with chemicals, solvents, paints, wood finishes or motors, consider installing an exhaust fan that sends the smells and fumes to the outdoors where they can dispel quickly.
Out-The-Door - The most affordable and simple way to exhaust fumes from a garage is to install an out-the-door exhaust hose system.
Vinegar Place open plastic containers filled with undiluted white vinegar (awesome for trapping smells) in each corner of the garage. Replace the vinegar every few days until the smell goes away. This is an old trick but it works like a charm!
This may sound like a laughable suggestion, but it works. Dose the area in white vinegar (if unfinished plywood/drywall don't even dilute it). It's actually amazingly effective for getting rid of gasoline smell. Try it for couple of rounds of dosing/drying before ripping everything out.
Some Basics about Air Filtration
Air filters with activated charcoal will remove benzene (and other volatile organic compounds), and those with additives such as potassium permanganate will remove most mercaptans (the 'smell' of natural gas) and other odorous gases related to gas leaks, such as hydrogen sulfide.

Baking soda is magic. It naturally absorbs smells, so it's helpful in places like your fridge. If you want to use it to cut down on paint smells, pour it onto several plates and scatter them throughout the room. Leave it overnight and then throw it away in the morning.
Putting charcoal powder or bowls of vinegar around your garage and leaving them overnight can greatly reduce bad smells. If the smells still stick around then replace the containers every day or so until it goes away.

Open the windows and doors to air out the home. Install a new filter in the HVAC unit. Put bags of activated charcoal around the house to absorb odor. Clean any rooms that smell like smoke.
Ventilate the house by opening all windows and turning on ceiling fans. After this, if the smell is persistent, evacuate your home. Put out any materials that can create a flame or cause a spark, such as any open flames. Get to a safe location far from your home.
