If your pressure gauge reading was low, make slight adjustments to your regulator. The regulator will have an adjustment screw that can be turned clockwise to increase pressure. Start by making very small changes to the water pressure, and continue to test to see if your home's water pressure improves.
A fast drop in only one faucet means there's a problem with the faucet. Rapid low pressure affecting one area of the house may mean a corroded pipe issue. An abrupt water pressure drop affecting the whole house may mean a water main break (municipal water) or a well pump problem (well water).
Check for a pressure-reducing valve (PRV) mounted on your water main. Most come set from the factory for 50 psi, but you can adjust them up or down by turning a screw on top. PRVs can also go bad after 10 to 20 years. So if yours is old, it might be time to replace it.
To return to full pressure only takes seconds. Flushing and recirculating takes minutes if you open all the taps, with the exception of tank water heaters.
You can increase water pressure by loosening a locknut on the valve. Contact a well-pump technician: If your house is on a private well, poor water pressure could indicate a problem with the captive storage tank or the pump. It's best to have the well system serviced by a qualified well expert.
If there's an accumulation of sediments in your hot water tank, it can lower your water pressure. The presence of kinks in the flexible water pipes used in water heaters can result in low water pressure. If the shut-off valve isn't fully open, water pressure can drop.
Check Your Aerator
If you have especially hard water, aerators become clogged with hard water buildup, a common cause of low water pressure in kitchen fixtures. Clean your aerator for a quick and easy DIY fix. Remove the aerator from the faucet using pliers and a towel (to prevent scratching).
Water Pressure Readings
Normal water pressure is generally between 40 and 60 PSI. Most homeowners prefer something right in the middle around 50 PSI. Once you measure the water pressure in your house, you can adjust it to a setting that is ideal for all family members and household uses.
If the low water pressure seems restricted to a single faucet or showerhead, the problem isn't with your pipes or water supply, but with the fixture itself. If it's a sink, the most common causes are a clogged aerator or clogged cartridge.
In addition to the mains stop valve outside the home, you'll have one inside. Your internal stop valve is most likely beneath the kitchen sink. Your external stop valve is owned by the water company. If it's open yet the pressure here falls below one bar, it's their responsibility to improve it.
Simply cleaning out the mineral build-up in your showerhead can fix your water pressure issues. If you can remove the showerhead, do so and scrub out the inside with a toothbrush or dish brush. If you can't remove the showerhead, take a plastic bag and fill it with white vinegar.
Opening the main valve (Open/Turn-on)
Close all faucets except a tub or sink on the highest level of the home. Partially turn on valves slowly; extra slow for lever handles; stop after ½ revolution on wheel handle, ½ of a ¼ turn for lever handle; with water flowing, slowly turn off highest open faucet.
Turn the main water supply back on
With your faucets turned on, turn the main water-supply valve back on. Let the water run through your faucets for 10 to 15 minutes. You need to make sure you see a steady stream of water without any noise from your piping.
Do All Homes Have a Water Pressure Regulator? No, and in some cases, you may not need one. Certain municipal supplies regulate their water pressure safely, but if that pressure runs above 80 psi, you'll want to protect your plumbing system by installing one.

Some of the first signs of a failing pressure regulator are a leaking water heater or commode. The water coming from a faucet may also exit with such force that splashing or water “hammering” may occur.
Simply go to one bathroom, and turn on all faucets/showers. Once all the fixtures are on, flush the toilet to see if the water drops pressure from the sinks or shower heads. If water pressure drops while the toilet is filling up, there might be an issue. You should complete this process for all rooms that have water.
Find the spigot closest to your source of water. Make sure all the taps and other water uses are turned off in your house. Now turn on the spigot and see how long it takes to fill the bucket. Dividing the number 60 by the time to fill the bucket will give you the gallons per minute number.
A reading of a flat “0” means there's some issue with the tank that's affecting either the amount of water it can hold or the amount of pressure it can sustain.
