The SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera is wireless, meaning it runs on battery power. Luckily that battery can last between three and six months between charges, depending on usage.
How long does a SimpliSafe battery last? A SimpliSafe camera battery should last anywhere from 3-6 months. Sensors can last years. Systems vary based on usage, but it notifies you when any battery needs to be replaced.
With the exception of the Base Station, SimpliCam Indoor Camera, Smart Alarm Indoor Camera, and Key Fob, all of the components for our latest SimpliSafe have batteries that can and should be replaced periodically. When a sensor needs new batteries, your system will display an error message on the Keypad.
You will likely never need to replace your Base Station's batteries as they are rechargeable and meant to last. The batteries in the Base Station are Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries.

The blue light flashing visually prompts you to check your Keypad for warning details. One example is the flashing when your doors or windows are open. While the Base Station chimes once to alert you of an opening door or window, the flashing is continuous when that window or door remains open.
We also advise users to install the Base Station 3-5 feet off of the floor, and 5 feet away from all major electronics. To install your Base Station you will want to start by removing the Base Station from the box.
The Base Station is the brains of your system. When one sensor or camera detects danger, it sends a signal to the Base Station, which sounds the siren and notifies you immediately. If it's unplugged or the power goes out, the backup battery that lasts up to 24 hours keeps you covered.
A simple voltmeter or multi-meter can also be used to check your battery's resting voltage. A reading of 12.6 to 12.9 volts indicates battery is charged.
Please note that the low battery warning may take up to 24 hours to clear within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App after changing the batteries.
Charge it Completely
If the Outdoor Camera's battery is not completely charged, it will give the appearance of draining quickly. The Outdoor Camera's battery takes up to 6 hours to charge completely.
The SimpliSafe base station uses colored LED lights to show the system's status: Red means a minor error or a recent alarm. Blue means the system is armed. Amber indicates an ongoing system update.
Check your home security system during a power cut
The system operates on a cellular network and will automatically switch to battery power, meaning that it's still able to operate and keep your home secure, even in the event your WiFi goes down.
If you change the battery or adjust the placement of your Base Station and still see this error, it's likely the result of the error being cached within the SimpliSafe® App. Removing your Entry Sensor from your system and adding it back should clear the error.
