Zinsser 1-2-3 Primer is a water-based stain blocking primer that can be used for interior or exterior projects. This primer provides a high hiding and stain sealer, meaning you can enjoy surfaces free from stains like oil, water, fire and smoke damage.
Most primers including Kilz or Kilz do not seal out moisture. Just a tip... the more shine in a paint the more water repellent it is. A High Gloss Oil based paint is the most water resistant paint there is. It is even better than Dry Lok.
Simply mix bleach, in a spray bottle, 3 parts of water to one part bleach. Spray the affected area and allow to dry. Repeat until stain is gone.
Use on wood, drywall, plaster, paneling, wallpaper, masonry, brick, painted metal and properly prepared glossy surfaces†. Not recommended for mold or mildew-prone surfaces or on flooring.

What paint to use to cover water stains? To create a barrier that stops the water stain from showing through, you'll need to use either a stain-blocking primer or an oil-based paint first. After that, you can apply an emulsion paint if necessary.
So, replace it with a natural and effective magic eraser. Simply wet it and rub over the stain or spill. They work wonders by removing difficult stains and sticky residue from the delicate surface. You can pre-treat the area with hydrogen peroxide and achieve sparkling results.
In some cases, water stains on ceilings can be caused by condensation. This is most common in homes with poor ventilation, like those with little or no insulation. If you think this might be the case, it's important to improve the ventilation in your home and address any other moisture problems as soon as possible.
Preparing your surface is an important step before applying primer, never prime over a dirty surface, clean your surface as best you can before you apply primer.

One of the most environmentally friendly ceiling water stain removal methods is using a vinegar and water solution. Vinegar, with its acidic properties, acts as a natural cleaning agent, breaking down and dissolving the stains.
Use latex primer and paint over a water-based wood stain or oil-based paint and primer over an oil-based wood stain. Apply even coats to small sections at a time and then let the paint dry before adding another coat. Wait for the paint to dry before using the surface or adding décor.
Don't Use Them On Your Car
Or any other delicate surface, for that matter, like silverware, glass, or metal surfaces. Dry erasers have the abrasiveness of a 3000 grit sandpaper – very fine, but can still mar shiny surfaces – like your stainless steel appliances!
The Primer:
Because water spots are made of well…… water, it is always best to prime them with an OIL based primer. A water based primer will allow the dark stain to bleed through.
Eggshell finish: After flat, eggshell finish is the next most popular ceiling paint finish. Eggshell paints offer a low sheen while still absorbing most light and hiding ceiling imperfections.
Hard water spots and other stains aren't permanent, but they will reoccur as long as your water hardness levels remain high.
