Surprise! Coke or Pepsi are great for vanquishing a clog! Everyone's heard about how a nail will dissolve in a glass of coke over time, and although most of us know this is a stretch, coke is arguably better than many commercial chemical clog removers because of its strong dissolving agents!
I did two 30-second intervals for 1 cup of Coke. You want to coat the entire toilet bowl with Coke. It'll run down and mix with the water, but leave behind an invisible layer of acid residue. The hardest part is letting the Coke work its magic.
Hot Water and Dish Soap
Wait for 10-15 minutes while the dish soap and hot water soften the clog. Once you do so, the toilet will unclog and flush freely. Alternatively, you could use hot water and shampoo from the sink if you wish to clear your toilet without leaving your bathroom.
As a one-stop cleaning solution, pour one cup of bleach around the bowl. Then tackle every inch with a toilet brush or a handheld scrub brush. Let it sit for five minutes, then flush.
Professionals turn to sulfuric acid to break up extreme clogs. This pro-grade concentration quickly wipes out the toughest back-ups.
Cleaning your toilet tank is pretty quick and easy with vinegar and baking soda. You only need to do it once or twice a year, and it can help get rid of bacteria, mold, and mineral deposits to keep you and your family healthy.
Pour 1/4 cup of Borax into the toilet bowl and swish it around with a toilet brush. Add one cup of vinegar and allow the mixture to sit in the bowl for about 20 minutes.
Bacteria, fungi, mold, and mildew among other things love to grow in the standing water of our toilets and are one cause of the dark ring around the edge of the toilet water (this is also one reason you should never let your pets drink from the toilet).
Hydrogen Peroxide – Mix 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1 quart of water. Pour this mixture down your clogged drain and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Be especially careful as this chemical can cause burns.
Bleach is an effective way to deal with blocked toilet drains as it is a dilute solution of sodium hypochlorite and also contains a high chlorine concentration. Using bleach by itself or mixing it with boiling water are effective ways to unclog a toilet.
Allow the baking soda and vinegar combination to sit for at least 20 minutes. You might hear your toilet flush when the clog gets removed before the end of that time. If that happens, run the handle to refill the bowl and flush it for a second cycle.
Is it okay to leave a clogged toilet overnight? In most cases, you can leave a clogged toilet overnight. However, calling an emergency plumber near you might be warranted if water starts leaking from the pipes. A simple clog likely won't cause this, but an inexperienced homeowner messing with the plumbing could.
Another method is to begin, again, with the baking soda and then slowly pour a couple of cups of cleaning vinegar over the top. Watch the level of fizz because this is definitely a situation where the science fair volcano would not be desired. Let the mix sit for anywhere between two hours to overnight.
If the clog still seems to be intact, start over at step 1 and repeat the process a couple of times. For extra-stubborn clogs, you can let the fizz mixture sit overnight or combine this method with plunging.
If you notice brown stains, limescale, or other unsightly mineral deposit buildup in your bowl, pour about a cup of hydrogen peroxide directly into your toilet tank. The chemical's bleaching properties will dissolve stains and sanitize the tank without damaging the flapper or flush valve.
Baking soda and vinegar can help clear a clogged toilet.
Flat soda can be frozen in ice cube trays so that your drink won't get watered down. You can use 7up or another citrus-based soda to soak the fruit in to keep from turning brown. Great for fruit salads or for lunch snacks. If you have close to a full can, you can do a “beer butt” soda chicken.
So, what can coca-cola dissolve? Coke can dissolve anything that can dissolve in water. The myth is that you can dissolve a quarter or a nail in a glass of Coke. But, it has been debunked through experiments and nothing happens even if you leave it in for 7 days.
