Mice and rats have itty-bitty paws that make quick, rhythmic scratching and light tapping sounds.
One thing it might be is expansion or contraction. When the temperature falls in the evening, parts of a house will cool and contract. As they contract, the parts will rub against each other, catching and then periodically slipping. This often causes various clicks, creaks, and pops.
Skunk Noises
Skunks in your home also make tapping and scratching noises with their long claws. Skunks are usually nocturnal, and will likely be under your deck or in your crawlspace.
Just the Pipes.
A repetitive ticking or clicking sound coming from walls and ceilings can result from the expansion and contraction of metal HVAC ductwork that conducts ventilation through these voids.
A Mice normally don't make any sound except when babies are nursing, they are fighting, or sometimes when they are breeding. If your mouse is making clicking/chattering sounds, then it is a good indication he has respiratory problems, most likely caused by mycoplasma.
The sounds they make:
Mice and rats have itty-bitty paws that make quick, rhythmic scratching and light tapping sounds.
They may squeak, squeal, or hiss - an audible sound if you happen to be there at the time. Rats make a quiet clicking noise by grinding their teeth together to warn other colony members that danger is nearby. They also stamp their feet to warn of a threat.
Tapping. A tapping sound from the wall can be attributed to termites too. The faint rattling or tapping in the wall occurs as termites bang their heads.
Tapping in the ear sometimes suggested by the brain
Sometimes the brain fools us. For example, it is able to produce sounds that we perceive in the ear - even if there is no actual sound source. So our brain can also fake a knocking in the ear.
Water and air flowing through pipes and radiators can result in clicking, ticking or tapping noises.
Tapping Noises – Tapping sounds coming from your roof or ceiling may be caused by your home's HVAC system. Ductwork contracts and expands throughout the day, and can often create a repetitive tapping sound.
There are thousands of species of click beetles. Some are relatively plain, while others have intricate patterns or glow at night. This wide variation coupled with their unique clicking mechanism makes click beetles one of the most interesting beetle species.
Knocking on the walls, front door, or windows of your home may mean you have a spirit on your hands. Some believe a knocking spirit is asking for entry into your home, which would only lead to a more entrenched spiritual presence, while others suggest this type of entity just wants to get your attention.
Blockage of the ear canal by earwax or by fluid from an ear infection can trigger tinnitus. Head or neck injuries. A head/neck injury can damage structures of the ear, the nerve that carries sound signals to the brain, or areas of the brain that process sound, causing tinnitus.
Knocking noises heard while sleeping can be a loved one trying to connect with you. Were you worrying about something, having a bad dream, questioning yourself or having conflict in your life at the time? Someone could have been trying to reach you to offer support and encouragement.
A tapping sound could be caused by a loose shingle or tile. A ticking sound could be a sign of a leak. Finally, a whistling sound is likely caused by wind passing through vents or openings in the roof.
Changes in temperature and humidity cause all of these materials to expand and contract. You probably hear the constant tapping sounds when someone in the house uses the hot water. It can also happen when using the bathroom, the dishwasher, or the clothes dryer.
Korotkoff sounds are broken down into five phases, heard in sequential order upon deflating the blood pressure cuff.[6] Phase I: clear tapping sounds heard for at least two consecutive beats - this is the systolic blood pressure.
Bats, opossums, and birds can make clicking sounds at night. In an enclosed space like an attic, people can hear the clicks and chirps from a bat.
Termites make noise primarily through a process called head-banging, where they rapidly tap their heads against the walls of their tunnels.
Cracked or Leaky Pipe
Although you can't see a cracked pipe through the wall, it can create a variety of strange sounds and costly problems like structural damage and increased water costs. The crack can make an audible vibration in the pipe, like dripping or tapping.
The most common cause of window popping sounds is natural expansion and contraction from changing temperatures and humidity levels. As outdoor temperatures fluctuate daily and seasonally, the wood components in windows expand and contract slightly in response. Similarly, interior humidity levels impact the wood.
This sound usually indicates that there is a water leak either in the ceiling or in the wall. Typically this will show up as a water stain near the source of the leak. Sometimes this sound is related to the thermal expansion of drain lines from cold or hot water running through it.
deathwatch beetle. deathwatch beetle, (Xestobium rufovillosum), an anobiid, or borer insect, of the family Anobiidae (insect order Coleoptera) that makes a ticking or clicking sound by bumping its head or jaws against the sides of the tunnels as it bores in old furniture and wood.
While people can sometimes pick up the sound of rats squeaking in walls, it is more common to notice louder, more repetitive activities. These typically include rustling or scratching noises in the wall when the pests run, as well as thumping sounds that occur when they bump surfaces.
