Standard vertical blinds draw or open to one side. Split stack vertical blinds open from the center and open to each side leaving a stack of vertical blinds on each side. With vertical blinds, the stack side is usually on the opposite side of the window from the door opening or window opening.

Check the Blinds Sit the Right Way
You'll often see that one slat is behind its two neighbors, when only one side should be behind. As you start turning the blinds, look out for any panels that aren't turning properly. Once they're put back in place, you'll find opening and closing properly is much easier.
Vertical blinds that won't rotate can be a real pain. The first thing you should do is check to see if the cords are tangled. If they are, untangle them and try to rotate the blinds again. If they still won't rotate, you may need to take them apart and fix the gears.

Positioning your blinds downward also increases your overall privacy. The only time that it is recommended that you position your blinds in the up position during the nighttime hours is if you prefer to wake up with the sun.
Privacy: When the vanes of vertical blinds are open 90 degrees, you can see outdoors and the outdoors can see in. For privacy, angle the vanes of these blinds at about 45 degrees or less, so if you are on one side of the blinds, you won't be seen.

Or, for maximum privacy and light control, go above and beyond the window frame. We recommend adding between 3” to 6” to your width measurement. Also add 2 ½” to your height measurement to allow enough room for the mounting brackets above the opening. Our suggested floor clearance is ½” to 1”.
