Mortar is a mixture of sand and cements that is most often used to build brick or block walls. Several concrete products are available from QUIKRETE® for making driveways and walkways and other concrete slabs. They are all trowel applied at 2" thickness: QUIKRETE® Concrete Mix is the standard product which achieves a strength of about 4000 psi in 28 days.
It's better not to pour concrete directly onto the dirt. Instead, use a layer of gravel underneath your concrete slab. Because concrete is porous, it absorbs water. If you place concrete directly onto dirt, water will collect under the concrete and slowly erode the bottom of the pad.
The ideal circumstances for curing are ample moisture and moderate temperature and wind conditions. Curing should be started as soon as possible and should continue for a period of 5 days in warm weather at 70 degrees F (21 degrees C) or higher or 7 days in colder weather at 50 - 70 degrees F (10 - 21 degrees C).
So, you would need about 9 bags of concrete for a 4x4 slab with a thickness of 4 inches if using 80 lb. bags.
The amount of concrete you need for a 10x10 slab depends on how thick it will be. So, for a 4-inch slab you'll need 1.24 cubic yards (56 80lb bags), but a 6-inch slab requires 1.85 yards (84 80lb bags).
Concrete doesn't stick to very much at all. First of all, wet concrete will not bond to dry concrete, hence the need for a bonding agent. It also doesn't adhere to paint, as paint is another material that is often made without any bonding agents. It also won't adhere to mortar and glue has absolutely no effect on it.

QUIKRETE® 5000 can be used for any application requiring concrete in a minimum thickness of 2" (51 mm), such as slabs, footings, steps, columns, walls and patios. YIELD • Each 80 lb (36.3 kg) bag yields approximately 0.60 cu ft (17 L). A 60 lb (27.2 kg) bag yields approximately 0.45 cu ft (12.7 L).
Generally, the concrete slab should be up to 8 to 12 inches thick. Likewise, it must be 2 feet wide or more to accommodate the footings. If the ground freezes (or could), the footings should be 12 or more inches beneath the frost line.
