Mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a bowl and use a cloth to wipe the slats. For a pleasant scent and additional cleaning power, add a few drops of essential oils like lemon or lavender. Baking soda can be used to treat spot stains, especially on fabric blinds.
The Sock Wipe Method
Mix warm water with white vinegar and dish soap. Wear gloves, cover your hand with an old sock, dip it in the solution, and wipe each slat from top to bottom. Depending on how dirty the blinds are, you might want to switch out the sock and cleaning solution a few times.
Use a solution of 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar and 1/2 cup water and wipe with a damp cloth. After doing this, expose the blinds to bright sunlight until dry, repeat as needed to get it all out. It really is that straightforward to clean mould off honeycomb blinds.
The easiest way to clean blinds is to use a microfiber duster or cloth to remove dust and debris. For a more thorough clean, fill a bucket with a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap, then use a cloth or sponge to gently wipe down each slat.

But people also frequently mix vinegar and baking soda to produce a reportedly effective household cleaner. Unfortunately, the chemistry behind the bubbly reaction doesn't support the cleaning hype. The fizzy action is essentially a visual "placebo", formed by the combination of an acid and a base.
To the original proportion, 2 cups water to half a teaspoon Dawn, simply add a quarter cup of white vinegar for a powerhouse cleaning combo.
Some people prefer to fill the tub with warm water, 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda instead. NOTE: Follow any cleaning directions that come with your blinds. Some manufacturers recommend against putting them in water, which may cause rusting in the headrail.
Most other blinds (Metal and Wood Venetian, Vertical, Fabric, and Roller blinds) are going to need to be cleaned in place. After you remove all of the dust, I suggest mixing warm water with a drop of Dawn soap and using my three-towel microfiber cloth system.
Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes may be appropriate for vinyl, plastic, aluminum and sealed wood, and can easily wipe away built up dust and grime. If allowed, wipe each slat with Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes, gently wiping the top and underside of the slats at the same. Use additional wipes as needed. Air dry.
White vinegar, also known as distilled vinegar or spirit vinegar, is made by fermenting grain alcohol (ethanol) which then turns into acetic acid. Water is then added to the vinegar, so white vinegar is made of five to ten percent acetic acid and ninety to ninety-five percent water.
Important: Vinegar is safe to use on windows and mirrors, but it can damage other materials due to acidity. Never use a vinegar cleaning solution on electronics (including on their glass screens). Don't use vinegar on granite or marble countertops or stone tile; instead, opt for a gentle Castile soap.
Every now and then, Venetian blinds can develop stains, especially if you leave your windows open. If your blinds are made of real or faux wood, it is best to use a Venetian blind cleaner to wash them, but otherwise regular lukewarm water with a splash of vinegar and a damp cloth will do the job nicely.
Add 3 scoops of FAB laundry powder, a cup of vinegar and approximately 3 squirts of dishwashing liquid. Leave to soak for half an hour. Rinse with clean water.
The layer of crud on my blinds was light enough this time that I wasn't too worried about inhaling too many particles. You can help protect your lungs by donning a face mask or wrapping your nose and mouth in a scarf -- you can always throw it in the wash when you're done. For squeaky clean blinds, put down the Windex.
For wooden blinds, try a furniture polish. If your blinds are stained, try a spot cleaner while they're still hanging. Or while they're in the bathtub, pick your go-to all-purpose cleaner or dish soap if the blinds are plastic or vinyl, and gently scrub the dirt off with the soap and water.
Professional ultrasonic blind cleaning is the recommended method for most types of blinds. This method involves immersing the blinds into a cleaning tank filled with water and eco-friendly cleaning solutions.
Baking Soda: Baking soda acts as a mild abrasive and can be used to create a paste for tackling stubborn stains or mineral deposits on glass.
A: Just an idea …the best thing for me is spraying the blinds with Lysol then using one of those Mr Clean Magic Erasers to wipe them down. It keeps you from having to clean each blind individually, and the magic eraser picks up everything.
In order to prevent your blind from becoming scratched or damaged, lay a groundsheet or blackout down. Carefully remove your blind from the window and lay it down over your prepared area. Fill a bucket with warm water and a mild detergent, and use a soft brush or nonabrasive sponge to gently clean each slat.
Dish Soap Solution
Believe it or not, one of the most common and effective window cleaning solutions that is used by professionals is a mixture of dish soap and water. Simply mix one gallon of water with two teaspoons of liquid dish soap, and you have a professional window cleaning solution.
Mixing vinegar and baking soda causes an immediate chemical reaction. This reaction forms water, sodium acetate (a salt) and carbon dioxide – the fizzy part. The amount of carbon dioxide gas that is produced from baking soda is remarkable – one tablespoon (around 18 grams) can release over five litres of gas!
Too Much Soap in the Solution
Well, window cleaner, this can absolutely apply to your soap solution. Your windows could be looking murky because you're using way too much of the good stuff. When it comes to concentrate, a little goes a long way, even if you're using regular dish soap.
