Unions and threaded close nipples shall be prohibited. Exception: Unions shall be permitted to be installed downstream of the appliance valve in accordance with Section 411.1.
You can't use bushings, cast iron (non malleable)or close nipples for gas work.
Fittings used with steel, stainless steel or wrought-iron pipe shall be steel, stainless steel, copper alloy, malleable iron or cast iron. 3. Fittings used with copper or copper alloy pipe shall be copper or copper alloy.
Copper and copper alloy pipe shall not be used if the gas contains more than an average of 0.3 grains of hydrogen sulfide per 100 standard cubic feet (scf) of gas (0.7 mg/100 L). Stainless steel tubing shall comply with one of the following: ASTM A268.
PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) is NOT approved for piping systems. Approved corrugated stainless steel tubing may be used for the interior gas piping provided that it is part of a system of tubing and fittings that has been tested and listed, for such gas piping system.
Street elbows and tees are not permitted because these fittings have both male and female threaded ends. This makes alignment of the piping difficult since the direction of the piping does not always correspond with the fully seated position of the fitting.

Never attempt your own gas piping installation.

NFPA 58: Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code provides minimum safety requirements for all liquefied petroleum gas (propane) installations, from small cylinders installed at residences to large bulk storage facilities that can exceed 100,000 gallons.
For other than steel pipe, exposed piping shall be identified by a yellow label marked “Gas” in black letters. The marking shall be spaced at intervals not exceeding 5 feet (1524 mm).
