If you ask us for advice - we recommend bamboo as a moisture-wicking, durable, and incredibly soft option. They're especially great if you live somewhere warm, as wool quilts may keep you warmer due to keratin.
Bamboo quilts offer natural thermal regulation, keeping you warm during cold nights while providing breathability to prevent overheating. The bamboo fibers also wick away moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable throughout the night.
Down provides the most insulation, while the feather provides weight. The most opulent quilts have a higher percentage of down to feather and are some of the warmest on the market. A quilt with a high percentage of down to feather will be warm while still being lightweight.
Keep Your Cool with Bamboo Bedding
Fabrics made from natural fibres like bamboo, cotton and linen, are the most breathable and will wick away perspiration, keeping you cool and preventing sweaty odours, meaning you stay dry and comfy all night long.
Some Bamboo quilts are hygienic and environmentally friendly choice, and the ideal sleep accessory for allergy sufferers. Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and chemical free, and is resistant to mould and dust mites.
When it comes to choosing the right quilt material, it mostly depends on your specific needs. Some consumers that live in colder climates prefer wool, believing that it'll keep them warm. Others like bamboo quilts better because they feel softer and because these materials wick moisture better than wool.
These same thermoregulatory properties of bamboo fabric also helps keep you warmer in winter, making bamboo a performance material for any weather. This is due to its cross sectional fibres which helps keep heat in on colder days, ensuring bamboo is warmer than cotton when the temperature drops.
Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, oudor resistant, chemical-free, making it a great choice for allergy suffers. Bamboo is also a great quilt option for the summer months, as Bamboo wicks away moisture and breathes to keep you cool in summer.
Go for 100% cotton bedding or 100% linen bedding - These breathable, sweat wicking materials help regulate your body temperature as you sleep. Make sure it's machine washable - The ideal bedding for sweaty sleepers is bedding suitable for regular machine washing so that you can easily keep it clean and fresh.
Both down and wool are natural, environmentally friendly options. But Wool has amazing temperature regulation properties unlike down which does not have the same moisture-wicking properties; this might lead to mildew or dust mites from getting inside your duvet.
In cold conditions, full merino wool base layers are a great choice, while warmer days are best suited for synthetics. You should also consider the insulating properties of the base layer material. If you're looking for a warm base layer, bamboo is a great choice.
Down and feather quilts
Down (either duck down or goose down) is a premium filling choice, prized for its insulating properties. Down and feather quilts also have that plush, cloudy appearance that makes a winter bed look so inviting.
Even though you can technically dry certain bamboo fabric quilts in a drying machine by using a delicate setting at the lowest heat, air drying is recommended. It's especially important to air dry if there are care instructions with a symbol that has a square with a rounded line in it, suggesting to line-dry the quilt.
For bamboo sheets, and especially the bamboo quilt, when using the washing machine it's best to use a gentle cycle and cold water. If you want to use the dryer also, make sure it's on the lowest heat setting.
Comfort & Breathability
Firstly, we've said it many times before and we're not about to stop - bamboo bedding (including quilts) is the softest, silkiest bedding on the market. Incredibly lightweight and breathable, sleeping under a bamboo duvet feels like heaven.
Aesthetically speaking, bamboo bed sheets are generally more prone to wrinkling, & they lack the “crisp” sheet feeling. On the flip side, TENCEL™ is less prone to wrinkling and tends to have a lustrous and less matte look. TENCEL™ sheets are also notably softer and more drapey than bamboo.
It requires manufacturing before it is considered solid. Since many countries manufacture and export bamboo, there are no standards regarding quality. There is the risk of exposure to formaldehyde or other VOCs. Similar to wood, bamboo surfaces are soft making it susceptible to scratches.
Cotton is often considered the best type of fabric to use for quilting, which comes in 115cm width and a medium weight. Quilters often find that quilt pieces line up better and are much easier to use compared to other fabrics on the market.
Wool. Quilts are natural and sustainable. They're warm, yet breathable which make them a great all-season option that will keep you cool and dry in the summer and warm in the winter. They also won't loft as much as other types.
Is Bamboo Fibre Cover Lightweight? Yes. Made of 100% bamboo natural fibre, a bamboo quilt's cover is an ultra-light fabric - serving as an excellent alternative for those heavy-weighted blankets.
