A toilet filling up with water after flushing can be caused by a variety of issues, including a clogged drain, malfunctioning flapper valve, problem with the fill valve, water pressure issues, or vent pipe issues.
Often you can set the water level by adjusting the float. Toilets with ball floats and arms usually have adjustment screws or dials to raise or lower the arm. If your toilet mechanism has a cylinder float, squeeze the float clip to release the float so you can slide it up or down to the correct level.
Turn off the shutoff (It's probably below the tank and on your left. Now gently push the toilet lever to drain some of the tank water level. Now clean the toilet. Turn the turn the shutoff back on. Wait till it stops filling. Flush the toilet if the water is about its normal level.
If the fill valve is not functioning correctly, it can cause the toilet to fill up with water after flushing. The fill valve may need to be adjusted or replaced to fix the problem. Adjust the Toilet Tank Water Level
By lowering it, the tank stores less water and uses less per flush. This small tweak can lead to noticeable reductions in water consumption without impacting the toilet's flushing efficiency. While aiming for efficiency, avoid underfilling the toilet tank.
Fill Valve Issues
The fill valve in the toilet tank regulates water levels. If the valve is misadjusted or malfunctioning, it may stop the tank from refilling fully. Misaligned float balls or damaged fill tubes are common problems that may require adjustment or replacement.
Located inside the toilet tank, the overflow tube is a vertical pipe that plays a crucial role in the flushing and refilling process. It works in conjunction with other toilet components, such as the flush lever, fill valve, and flush valve, to ensure proper water flow.
You can adjust the water level by twisting the “Tank water level adjustment screw” connected to the float. Turn Clockwise for a higher water level and Counterclockwise for a lower water level.
High Filler Float: A high filter float can cause the tank to overfill. The float controls the tank's water level. If it is set too high, the water will continue to fill past the proper level, eventually spilling into the overflow tube. Faulty Fill Valve: A faulty fill valve can cause the tank to fill too much.
Ghost flushing, or phantom flushing, occurs when your toilet tank refills independently without anyone pressing the handle. Adjust the Roller Clamp by pushing down and rolling the pin forward. Engaging the Rolling Clamp restricts the flow of water to the bowl. Repeat this action until the toilet bowl fills to your pencil mark at approximately the same time the tank water turns off.
Look at the fill valve
You can also try adjusting the fill valve. Turn the adjustment screw of the fill valve to change the water level. You can check your toilet's instruction manual for help if you need it. If you don't have your toilet instructions (who does?!), it might be easier to call a local plumber.
The normal water level in a toilet bowl is about halfway full. The water should sit above the P trap drain because this creates a seal and suction. When you flush the toilet, the suction keeps sewer gases from entering your house through your toilet.
Reach into the toilet tank and push down on the flapper value which is the rubber piece in the bottom centre of the tank. This should stop the flow of water into the tank. Once the water level drops back to normal you should be able to let go of the float.

Adjust the water level by turning the screw clockwise to lower the ball or counter-clockwise to raise it.
