An ADT alarm displays a "low battery" warning because either the main system's backup battery or an individual wireless sensor's battery is depleted, or the system recently lost and restored power.
Most systems will begin beeping or chirping as a result of a total power outage or failure to recharge the system backup battery. For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
We recommend changing all your wireless sensor batteries on an annual basis or as directed by your ADT system.
A low battery warning is most often displayed as BAT, LOW BATT or SYSTEM LO BAT on the touchpad. This warning signals that your battery is low and must be either recharged or replaced. ADT offers several battery-replacement options for our customers, including a self-service option on most systems and devices.

Fixing Persistent Low Battery Alarm Issue
Check for corrosion on terminals and replace batteries with fresh, compatible ones. Reset the device by removing batteries for a minute before reinserting.
Open your system's panel. (If you need a key to open your panel, the key is often left on top of the panel.) After opening the panel, disconnect the wires on your battery by gently tugging on them. Replace the battery by connecting the RED wire to the RED tab on the battery and the BLACK wire to the BLACK tab.
In most cases the alarm system will activate or at least beep if there is a low battery or if the alarm system battery dies.
Home alarm system battery replacement cost
The typical cost of a replacement burglar alarm battery is between £12 and £30 depending on the type and make of battery.
Most systems can take either a 12V 7Ah or a 12V 4Ah battery. The 4Ah size is used in smaller panel boxes. A few systems may use different voltage and Ah ratings.
Battery replacement is not covered under any warranty. If you require services excluded from coverage, then ADT will provide the services at its current labor rate for each service call.
When you have a low battery alert on your panel, it usually starts to beep. You may need to replace your panel battery. This happens when your system back-up battery is low. If your system has recently lost power and the power has restored, the battery usually recharges within 24-48 hours.
To immediately stop a house alarm from beeping, press the [Disarm], [Reset], or [#] key on your keypad, followed by your 4-digit security code. If you don't know the code, you will need to open the main control box and manually unplug the battery.

When your ADT system shows a low battery alert, first identify the affected component—usually the control panel or wireless sensors. Replace the rechargeable backup battery inside the control panel or the AA/AAA batteries in sensors.

No, low batteries do not trigger the loud, continuous fire alarm. Instead, they emit a short, distinct chirp or beep every 30 to 60 seconds. This acts as an indicator that the battery needs replacement, rather than a fire emergency.
