In fact, the difference between four and three exterior door hinges is mainly based on the weight of the entrance door. The heavier the entrance door, the more hinges are used. That is to say, each hinge has its own load-bearing range.
For doors over 2200mm tall, then four hinges can be used to prevent warping. Consider any other factors that increase the loadings of hinges and their fixings – extra wide doors, high level of abuse, e.g. school or hospital.
Your door size and weight puts it between the range for 4 and 5 hinges. The size puts it close to 5 hinges but still within the range for 4. Four hinges are acceptable.
A general rule is to use one hinge per 30 inches of door. If a door is 60 inches tall, you may be able to use two hinges with it. Doors taller than 60 inches, however, will likely require three hinges. You should still take into account the door's weight and whether it's an interior or exterior door.
Typically it is to support the weight of the door. Solid doors or steel doors are heavier, so three hinges will support the weight without breaking or twisting. Hollow core doors (typically inside doors for a house) may only have two hinges. But they occasionally have three when they are in high use areas.
General rules to follow with Door Hinges
The top hinge should be located 150mm from the top of the sash, the bottom hinge should be located 150mm from the bottom of the sash, and the middle flag hinge should be positioned at an equal distance centrally between the top and bottom of the sash.
Unlike traditional hinges, concealed hinges do not have visible pins or hardware, allowing the door to blend seamlessly with the surrounding structure.
Most domestic doors, which tend to be between 60″ and 90″ in height, will require three. However, you can fit lighter internal doors less than 60″ in height with only two hinges.

Usually, hinges are installed 10 inches from the bottom of the door and 5 inches from the top. If you've decided on three hinges the third hinge can be installed in the middle of the top and bottom hinge. It is vital that the measurements are exactly the same on the door and frame to get the correct alignment.
4 hinges (2 pair) are standard on openings over 7'-6” in height and up to and including 10'-0” in height.
Place the top hinge 5 inches from the top of the door and the bottom hinge 10 inches from the bottom of the door. If the door frame is already mortised, follow that placement pattern for the door.
All fire doors are required to have at least 3 hinges, which must be certified and tested for use on fire-rated doors. Fire door hinges should be CE marked along with a fire identification stamp which is easily visible.

If your door has a width wider than 37 inches or goes up to 48 inches, you can make use of an extra hinge for added support. The extra hinge will help support the additional tension and weight upon the frame, owing to the door's wider width.

You can attach the hinges to either the door or the frame first, depending on your preference. The order will not affect how the door hangs or the ease of installation.
