Detergent residue is often the result of detergent not being properly dissolved before the wash. To prevent this from occurring in a top loader, add detergent to the water and run your machine for a few minutes before immersing the articles to be washed. This will help ensure the detergent powder is properly dissolved.
Even with the clothes turned inside out and set to a cold-water wash, it doesn't hurt to add the extra layer of care by washing your clothes on a gentle cycle to keep clothes from fading. The mix of the cold water, the indirect fabric exposure, and gentle cycle are all shields to help keep clothes from fading.

Identify Fading Causes: Sun exposure, frequent washing, and excessive detergent use make clothes lose color. Reducing these factors helps keep colors vibrant. Use Home Remedies: Restore colors by adding salt or vinegar to your wash, dyeing fabrics, or drying clothes in sunlight to naturally brighten them.
Every wash cycle can gradually strip away the dyes that give your clothes their bright colors. The type of detergent you use plays a significant role here. Harsh detergents with strong chemicals can be particularly rough on fabrics, leading to faster fading.

Turn clothes inside-out to reduce friction that leads to fading on the outside. Wash heavy fabrics apart from more delicate ones, and zip all zippers to reduce friction. Wash in cold water, which keeps fibers closed, trapping dye inside. Warm water opens fibers and sets dye free.
Use Cool Water
Hot water tends to open fabric fibres, which encourages the dye to escape and run, while cold water keeps them closed, trapping the dye inside to prevent bleeding. The cold setting on your washing machine will eliminate most problems with colour bleeding and may even help clothes last longer.
In addition to trapping dirt and building up over time, using too much laundry detergent can cause numerous problems for your clothes. As detergent builds up, it can leave behind an invisible layer of film that can trap dirt and hard water minerals, giving clothes a dingy or faded appearance.
Soak clothes in salt water -- Salt is inexpensive, environmentally friendly and great for keeping your colors bright. Before you wash that colorful new top, soak it overnight in salt water. Simply fill your washer with cold water, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of salt, and then add your clothes.
Set the washing machine to the coldest possible temperature, on a short cycle, and choose a light soil setting for a lightly soiled load. Dark-coloured clothing is susceptible to losing its colour during a laundry cycle. Washing dark clothes in cold water helps the fibres in dark fabric stay intact.
Did you know that white vinegar can help to keep fabric colors from fading? If you add ½ cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle, the liquid will freshen up your laundry and help colors maintain their intensity.
Skip liquid does not leave laundry detergent residue behind on clothing. Skip liquid doesn't clump up like powder detergents can. Skip liquid can be applied directly to stains on clothing to act as a pre-wash stain remover.
Liquid detergents dissolve more easily at lower temperatures, making them suitable for energy-efficient cycles and machines. On the other hand, powder detergents can offer more cleaning power per kilogram, potentially providing a more cost-effective solution for heavy-duty washing needs.
