Green PondFx is the safest, most effective algaecide on the market for backyard ponds, but caution must be used when applying it during warm summer weather!
Made with poly ethylene, Tetra AlgaeControl Freshwater Aquarium Algaecide is highly effective against green water, bluegreen algae, diatoms or brown algae, hair algae or blanketweed. It is safe for use in planted aquariums and comes with a precision dropper to ensure proper doses are administered.
The best method to remove green algae is a UV light. This will zap the algae in suspension continuously and not harm your fish in any way. When you first turn it on, your pond will go from green to brown or grey.
OVERVIEW. Green Stop Algaecide utilizes a fast acting formula to effectively control many types of green or brown water. Each 16-oz bottle treats up to 5,320 gallons and is safe for fish, plants, and wildlife.
Aquascape all new algae formula is plant and fish safe.
Algaecide is a chemical substance that biologically controls the growth of algae. It can be used in pools, fountains, and ponds.
Liquid Algaecide is a strong algae depressant used for the prevention of algae growth and the maintenance of sparkling water in pools. Algae growth is the main cause of “off” colours in your swimming pool water. Prevention is important, regulated use of liquid algaecide will keep your water clear and shiny.
Tetra Algae Control by Tetra
Algae Control is plant-safe. For freshwater aquariums.
Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Avoid breathing vapor or spray mist. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Prolonged or frequently repeated skin contact can cause allergic reaction in some individuals.
Regular algaecides do not contain copper, but rather quaternary ammonium compounds, also known as "quats" or "polyquats." These compounds are safe for immediate swimming. Use of too much algaecide may cause slight eye or skin irritation, so always be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Use a mixture of water and white vinegar to spray down the area and kill the algae. Rinse the surface alga off the concrete with a water hose. Next, pour white vinegar directly on the surface and scrub using a brush.
This is perhaps the simplest, long-term solution to keeping water clean and clear. Floating plants, such as lilies and lotus, provide shade and reduce direct sunlight in the pond to control the growth of algae. Add submerged plants that release oxygen to the water, such as anacharis, hornwort and parrot's feather.
Regardless of the appearance, algaecides work on the one principle, namely to destroy the algae. This is either accomplished by destroying the algae directly or by “suffocating” it.
Algaecides vary in their mechanism of action, but they are all considered “contact” pesticides, meaning they cause injury to only the algal cells or filaments that come in contact with or are exposed to dissolved algaecide, with little intercellular movement.
Many algaecides are copper-based—either made of copper sulfate or copper chelates, which are chemical compounds with a metal as the central atom. A few registered algaecides instead use the herbicide endothall or sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate.
It is safe for birds, plants, and animals but not for fish.
This product is a slow working one, and can take up to 72 hours to clear green algae. Dying algae produces toxins and takes out oxygen so we prefer to remove algae rapidly to keep fish safe. If, after 72 hours, there is no change at all, test your alkalinity as chemicals do not perform as well when it is really low.
Expand Section. Blue-green algae are a group of bacteria. They can be used as a source of protein, but contain no more protein than meat or milk. Blue-green algae produce blue-green colored pigments and are high in protein, iron, and other minerals. They grow in saltwater and some large freshwater lakes.
While shocking and adding algaecide is effective in getting rid of algae, it should not be done together. This is because when you mix chlorine and algaecide together, it renders both of them useless. Hence, you should first shock the pool and wait for the chlorine levels to fall below 5 PPM.
Winter Pool Algaecide is highly effective at preventing all forms of algae. Polymer pool algaecide stays strong all winter providing dependable control of algae growth throughout the winter season. Unique winterizing algaecide is specifically formulated to fight cold weather algae for up to 5 months in a covered pool.
Swim Clear's Copper Algaecide is used to kill existing algae and to preemptively help control algae growth in swimming pools. It is 3% Elemental Copper, making it a powerful pool algaecide that is compatible with all of the pool chemicals you already use.
Algaecide works by removing the oxygen and suffocating the algae. It is also hard on plants, beneficial bacteria, and fish. Algae itself puts oxygen into the water. For that reason we recommend only treating ¼ of the pond at a time.
Apply 1 teaspoon of Green PondFx to treat 60 gallons of pond water. (1 tablespoon treats 180 gallons, and 1 ounce treats 360 gallons.) Add the treatment to the area with the most circulation, such as directly by the pond's waterfall or filter.
Plankton algae provide important benefits to the pond ecosystem. They support the base of the food chain in the pond or lake and are fed on by zooplankton (microscopic animals) which, in turn, become food for fish.
