In most cases, the clog is located in the trap or pipe leading away from the “last” non-working fixture. (“Last” refers to fixtures down-slope.)
Slow drainage
Water should go down quickly when you flush the toilet. If it takes a while for your toilet bowl to drain, there might be something stuck in the pipes preventing normal flow. Clogs can cause a complete blockage as well as slow drainage. Either way, you need plumber assistance if this is the issue.
'Soap, cleaning fluids or chemicals can all cause drain blockages. First, consider whether it makes sense that cleaners could cause such a problem. This occurs when mineral deposits combine with soap or chemical products, resulting in scum that becomes thick enough to clog sink drains. '
Signs that your drain is clogged
Water takes longer than usual to drain in the shower, bathtub, or bathroom sink. There's a funky odor that you can't track down. The kitchen sink has filled up with debris-filled water—and running the garbage disposal has little to no effect.
First, make sure the water has drained away and your basin is empty and dry. Then, pour one cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by two cups of boiling water. You'll then have to wait about 3 - 5 minutes. Once this is done, pour another cup of baking soda, followed by one cup of white vinegar, down the drain.
In some cases, drains can unblock themselves depending on the nature of the blockage. For example, if your drain has become blocked due to tree root ingress, it will not be able to unblock itself (and require an engineer to conduct a CCTV drain survey to assess the problem and identify a solution).
When you are using a baking soda and vinegar solution to clean out your drain, you are actually causing the rubber and plastic that are used for the drain's pipes to be eaten away by the mixture. Over time, this rubber and plastic will break down, causing the drain to become even more blocked.

Snakes can include everything from disposable plastic tools to complicated metal devices. For toilet clogs specifically, we recommend the more professional kind, with a handle on the end.
For the toughest of clogs, a plumber may use a hydro jet. This tool sends pressured water through pipes to break down drain build-up. This tool is often faster and more efficient than a typical drain snake. Hydro jets get rid of the clog, but they're also effective for cleaning drains.
Minerals
One of the most common causes of clogged drains is actually caused by the minerals in the water. Hard water is full of minerals that build up and easily prevent drainage in your pipes. The best solution is to have a water softener installed in your home.
If your blocked sink drain isn't affected by off-the-shelf products, you may need a professional sink blockage cleaning. A qualified plumber will access the deepest crevices where more sludge and gunk may be hiding. During a professional sink blockage cleaning, your plumber will likely disassemble the pipes.
It is Extremely Corrosive For Your Drains

Pouring boiling water is quite risky as it might lead to a steam burn or scalding. Another thing to keep in mind is what type of material you are pouring in into. If you have a porcelain sink, it is likely to crack due to the heat. All in all, pouring boiling water down your drain will only cause issues down the road.
Can you leave baking soda in the drain overnight? It is safe to leave baking soda (and vinegar) to work overnight to unclog a drain.
Salt & hot water
While hot water can help loosen up debris, coarse salt actually scours the inside of your pipes, removing more material than hot water alone. After removing standing water from the sink, pour about half a cup of table salt down the drain before you pour in the hot water.
You may be surprised to learn that pouring soda down the drain does work for some clogs. To be specific, you need a dark-colored cola (such as Coca-Cola or Pepsi). This type of carbonated beverage usually contains a good amount of phosphoric acid, which given enough time, can eat away at some types of clogs.
Mix 1/2 cup table salt and 1/2 cup baking soda together, and pour down drain. Let sit for about 30 minutes (or overnight if it's a tough clog). Follow with a pot of boiling water.
Getting back to the question, the short answer is yes. Epsom salt contains oxygen, sulfur, and magnesium that, when mixed with water, creates a fizzle and unclogs a drain. It has been used in many households as an effective declogging tool.
