They are especially attracted to starch, sugar, grease, meat and cheese. Decaying food items are particularly delicious for a hungry roach in search of his next meal. In summary, while sound may be used as a deterrent, there is currently no reliable method to create a sound that can effectively and safely kill cockroaches.
Attractor #1: Food
What attracts cockroaches more than anything is food. Roaches need food to survive. Eliminating access to food can help eliminate a roach problem. Throw away any food that has been left out on the counter.

In fact, the most lethal effect of the female German cockroach is at the frequency of 80kHz (Fig. 3). Moreover, the results specify that no female cockroaches were killed at 20 kHz; however, dead male cockroaches were observed at all frequencies (Fig. 3).

Surfaces Cockroaches Cannot Climb
There are some surfaces in our homes that are usually too smooth for cockroaches to climb. These include: Porcelain. Glass.
Cockroaches are repelled by the smells of peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, citronella, and cedarwood oils. These scents can be used as natural deterrents to keep them away from your home.
Cockroaches are blessed with an amazing sense of smell. This is what they use when seeking food and mate but at the same time, this is also their weakness. A cockroach's sense of smell can be used to get rid of them.
Leaving the light on doesn't deter cockroaches effectively because they can navigate in low-light conditions. While they're mostly active at night, they may still come out in search of food or water. During the day, cockroaches hide in dark areas not directly exposed to light.
Choose your bait.
Onion is a common choice, although you can use anything fragrant. Try using a small strip of fresh banana peel or sweet, overripe fruit. You can also use a small piece of bread. If you have noticed the cockroaches in your house being attracted to a specific food, try using that as bait.
Electronic cockroach repellent supposedly works by emitting ultrasonic, or very high frequency, sound waves.
Roaches are resilient and extremely hard to get rid of once they have established themselves in your home. As long as the temperature indoors is above 50 degrees, roaches can remain active year-round, although they are more prevalent in the spring and summer months.

It can kill all sorts of cockroaches, including the American and German variety, and it's even safe to use if you have pets or kids.
While it's possible cockroaches may crawl into your bed or over you to reach a food source, they're generally afraid of humans and try to avoid them. They may be tempted to crawl over your bed at night if they find crumbs or food, so it's important to keep your bed and bedroom clean.
Commercial kitchen fans
Flies, cockroaches and other pests are attracted to the warmth and food smells of kitchens. In these environments, ceiling fans and air curtains can help keep insects away. Ceiling fans circulate air throughout the kitchen, making it difficult for insects to land and feed.
Peppermint oil is a top contender when it comes to repelling roaches. The intense minty aroma is refreshing to us but absolutely overwhelming to roaches. The reason peppermint is so effective lies in its menthol content, which irritates a roach's sensitive respiratory system, making it hard for them to stay around.
There's a long-running joke that cockroaches could survive the apocalypse, as getting rid of unwanted roaches is difficult if you have an infestation. But if you want to kill them on contact, all you need to do is reach for your handy bottle of Pine-Sol! Considered a "contact insecticide," it kills them quickly.
Rosemary is considered one of the best roach repellents because it's actually highly toxic to the insects. Even better, this plant can be found at your local nursery, hardware store, or plant shop and requires little water. Just make sure you place it in direct sunlight.
While the sweet smell of residual food might be attracting roaches into your home, don't forget that alternative smells may be contributing too. For instance, a sweet bowl of potpourri could be luring them in, as could a sickly sweet scented candle.
