Solution: You want to almost dry brush the paint along the edge of the tape. Not much paint on it at all. Then go back over with a second coat, this time apply it normally. Works great!

Yes. The difference between painter's tape and masking tape lies primarily in the adhesive. Masking tape is designed to be extra sticky and not come off, while painter's tape is designed to have a low tack that makes it easier to remove after painting and less likely to leave residue.
Apply heat.
Much like warm water softens tape, heat can help melt stubborn adhesives without damaging the surface of your floor or wall. Just one minute with a hairdryer, heat gun or even a blow torch will do the trick. Gently scrape off the adhesive while you apply heat on the surface of your floor or wall.
Tape should be removed when it feels dry to the touch, which is ideally about an hour after painting. If it still feels gummy, leave the tape on overnight and remove it within 24 hours, when it finally feels hard and dry.
It will definitely rip off the paint.
Use a putty knife or razor blade to score along the edge of the tape. This prevents paint from being pulled up with the tape and from cracking along the paint line. Taking your time, lift up the painter's tape and pull it back on itself, removing at a 45 degree angle.

If you don't want to spend any extra money or are in a pinch and need to use something that's already in your house, then a sheet of paper or thin card will do the trick. 'For the quickest and most economical alternative to masking tape when painting edges, use a sheet of paper or thin card,' confirms Pat.
Cutting in is the process of painting edges or straight lines with a quality angled brush without tape. It is all done freehand. This is the method that most professional painters use. The case can be made that using painter's tape is extremely time consuming and can be a colossal waste of time.
Since the adhesive isn't as strong or sticky as it is on regular masking tape, painter's tape peels off residue-free and doesn't take any extra paint with it.
3M™ Professional Masking Tape P3630 is a professional painter tape with medium adhesion for masking smooth surfaces.
I'm a Painter contractor and buy this tape all the time, it never fails. Yes, I recommend this product.
The hair dryer trick is a good suggestion, as is the use of FrogTape. Also, when removing the tape, don't pull at a right angle (or similar acute angle) to the painted surface. Try to pull “backwards” from the leading edge, keeping your pull as low to the painted surface as possible.
You want to glide the brush on its edge at a 45-degree angle in a slight arc motion, ensuring you are getting into the tight areas. The slower you spread the paint, the more concise the brush line will be. Make sure you cut in on every coat of paint that is applied.
Green painter's tape, often marketed as "multi-surface" or "delicate surface" tape, offers similar benefits to blue tape but with added features for extra protection. It's designed for use on more delicate surfaces where the risk of damage or adhesive residue is higher.
Traditional tapes are difficult to remove and may leave unattended residues, while automotive masking tape is safe for car paint. Even if it has a better grip than regular masking tapes, it will neither leave adhesive residues, nor affect the quality of the painting.
3M No Residue Duct Tape is the go-to tape for a long-lasting strong hold that removes without any residue. This is ideal to use for both long term and temporary holds such as bundling, securing cords or keeping mats in place.
