A circular saw is a woodworking tool that works well for cutting a solid surface countertop.
Use tungsten carbide blades with correct blade configurations, referring to Table C-1. The correct tools are essential for cutting Corian® Solid Surface to ensure that no chipping occurs and that all cuts are neat and clean.
To achieve the best results, opt for a saw blade with around 60 teeth, as this helps to minimise chipping and achieve smoother edges. When cutting, position the countertop with the laminated side facing up. Applying masking tape or painter's tape along the intended cut line can further prevent chipping.

Keep nail polish remover, bleach, detergent, permanent markers or inks, and oil soaps away from your Corian® Quartz.
We therefore recommend cutting with the face side down to avoid chipping the laminate. If you are installing your sheet as a countertop or on top of other furniture, leave the curves and corners out. You only want to cut out the shape and leave the trimming for later.
The Bosch T101BR jigsaw blade is an ideal choice for cutting laminate materials. The blade cuts on the down stroke, not on the upstroke, the “R” in the product code referring to its “reversed” teeth. This is a popular blade often referred to as a worktop blade.
Cutting plywood cleanly requires more teeth on the blade and Avanti delivers with this 140-teeth circular saw cutter. Suitable for heavy-duty use on a construction site or occasional DIY use around the house, the 7-1/4 in.
Corian is the heavier, solid-feeling alternative to laminate and tile. You'll also need to be comfortable with occasionally sanding out light scratches with fine-grit sandpaper or hiring countertop technicians to do so.
Corian is both practical and functional whilst being an easy material to work with, although due to it's cost it's a material you don't want to make too many mistakes with. When cutting Corian and to achieve the best finish we would recommend using a router along with solid carbide tool.
The inserts should be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Screws should never be inserted directly into Corian® solid surface.
Even though Corian® is very hard and durable, it is not actually made of stone, making a diamond blade unnecessary. A tungsten carbide triple chip grind blade works best for cutting Corian®.
Cabinets or other supports for countertops must be level to within ⅛” over a 10 foot length. The portion of the top that is above the cabinets needs support using strips of wood or plywood that are 2-1/2” to 3” wide and ¾” to 1” thick.
The best tools to cut laminate countertops are an electric circular saw and an electric jigsaw. The electric circular saw should be used for long, straight cuts. The electric jigsaw should be used for curves and corners.
The best circular saw blade for a straight cut through laminate counter top is one with many fine teeth — at least 40. Blades with carbide tips tend to last longer than regular steel. In addition, you should choose a narrow blade, or one with thin kerf, as it's called in saw talk [source: Out of the Woodwork].
Blades with a small number of large teeth are ideal for solid wood. Blades with a large number of smaller teeth are ideal for iron and laminated chipboard. The second parameter to look at when choosing a blade is material thickness and shape of cut. This means either straight, curved or circular cuts.
Solid surface material is heavy, so it's best to cut and shape it while it is stationary rather than trying to push it through a machine like a table saw. If you don't have a good size, flat workbench to work on already, a great way to achieve a good working environment is to simply use sawhorses.
A: Hi Mike, yes you can order custom sizes through a special order. Please contact The Home Depot kitchen department for more information regarding special orders.
For solid and veneered worktops, you need a cross-cut, fine tooth saw blade with 48 teeth. For laminated worktops, it is advisable to use the triple chip grind saw blade, also with 48 teeth. In addition to the using the right saw blade, a splinter guard is essential for ensuring a low-splinter cut.
Corian is a branded name used in reference to solid surface countertops. These surfaces are a step up from laminate but still lack the durability and aesthetics that would allow them to compete with natural stone such as quartz. This is one of the primary reasons Corian offers poor resale value compared to quartz.
Because they consist mainly of resin rather than stone, solid surface countertops are vulnerable to heat damage from hot pots or pans. It's always a good idea to put down a hot pad or another barrier on your countertop before placing a hot pan out to cool.
Use a soft brush to gently scrub away at the stains. Vinegar works to soften stains, and will kill mold and mildew spores as well. Using white vinegar to clean your Corian countertops is ideal as the acidity of vinegar does not affect the Corian countertop like it does marble countertops.
