Downpipes come in two shapes – square and round – with guttering downpipe sizes ranging from 65mm for a square downpipe to a 120mm downpipe diameter for a round one. Some brands offer extra-large sizes of 200mm, which are designed for use in industrial applications.

If your roof's square footage requires 5-inch gutters, you'll need a 2-inch by 3-inch downspout. That creeps up to a 3-inch by 4-inch downspout for 6-inch gutters. It's necessary to create custom downspout solutions for gutters wider than 6-inches that are being installed to address excessive pitch or rainfall levels.
Gutter width is just a fancy term for the margin between columns within a row. It is difficult to adequately build a grid with correct margins on the fly.
Most homes use 3-inch or 4-inch diameter downspouts. The three commonly used downspout sizes are: Three-inch diameter 2x3 rectangular and 3 inch round downspouts can handle about the same amount of water flow.

However, there are some common issues caused by buried downspouts that homeowners should be aware of. One of the most common problems with buried downspouts is clogging. Over time, debris such as leaves, dirt, and twigs can accumulate in the pipe, leading to blockages.
