Dirty Labs Dishwasher Detergent + Booster
Dirty Labs is the best non toxic dishwasher detergent in my opinion for a couple reasons. First, the ingredients are clean but it actually cleans your dishes- they come out sparkling and streak free! Even food that was stuck on- it doesn't mess around.
Vinegar is an excellent natural cleaner. Pouring a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of your empty dishwasher and running a hot water cycle can effectively eliminate grease and grime.
If you're wondering why I didn't just add a bowl of vinegar to my dishwasher? That's what I used to do! That works just fine, but as far as I can tell, the Affresh is definitely more effective. Especially if it's been a while since your dishwasher was last cleaned.
How do you clean a dirty dishwasher with dishwasher cleaner? If baking soda and vinegar don't quite do the job, a cleaner that's made especially for dishwashers might do the trick. affresh® dishwasher cleaner is specially formulated to help remove limescale and mineral build-up.
First, empty the dishwasher. Then put one cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher-safe bowl and place it on the top rack of the dishwasher. Run the hottest cycle on the dishwasher. Skip the drying cycle and open the dishwasher door to let it air-dry.
You Really Shouldn't Use Vinegar to Clean Your Dishwasher. White vinegar is typically touted as a magical cleaning aid and natural odor neutralizer -- but it can wreak havoc on your dishwasher.

A basic mixture of dish soap, water, and white vinegar makes a great homemade cleaner that's safe for all dishwasher surfaces. Dip a microfiber cloth in your soapy water, squeeze out the excess, and then swipe in the direction of the surface's grain.
Affresh® dishwasher cleaner is safe for stainless steel dishwashers, septic systems and municipal water supplies. It's safe for most dishes and pots and pans as well, but check your manufacturer's directions before using it in a load full of your best dishes.
If you wipe down every day spills and splatters on your dishwasher daily and remove leftover food particles from the bottom weekly, it makes the need for a deep clean less frequent. If frequent cleanings slip your mind, do a thorough cleaning seasonally or about every three months.
White vinegar and baking soda are both wonderful ways to clean your dishwasher — just make sure to not use them at the same time before running a cycle. It is recommended to run a wash cycle with vinegar first then with baking soda.

Choosing the Right Detergent for Your Dishwasher
If you prioritize convenience and ease of use, dishwasher pods may be the better option for you. They offer pre-measured portions that eliminate the need for measuring and pouring, and they are less messy than liquid detergent.
Add vinegar
These vinegars don't contain any plant dyes, which can be responsible for discolouring some surfaces. Simply place a dishwasher-safe dish or bowl at the bottom of your dishwasher with around 500ml of vinegar, then run a regular hot water cycle without a drying cycle.

As an alternative to a formulated washer tub cleaning product like Affresh, you can use a DIY washing machine cleaner to clean and sanitize the inside of the tub with a combination of white vinegar and baking soda, or liquid chlorine bleach (be aware that vinegar and bleach should never be used together).
When used as directed, dish detergents and rinse aids are safe and effective. However, if you eat concentrated dishwasher pods or rinse aids, you can harm your health. Use products as directed and keep them away from small children.
Running the dishwasher in an empty wash cycle with just one single-dose pac gives you a clean machine!
