Gases with a similar density to air, like carbon monoxide, should be detected within the “breathing zone,” which is typically between 4 to 6 feet (1.2 to 1.8 meters) from the floor—where most people breathe.
Methane gas detectors should therefore be placed near the ceiling, leaving a distance of at least 6 inches from the ceiling, while also avoiding dead air spaces, e.g. corners.
Sensors for gases that are heavier than air should be installed approximately 30 cm (1 foot) from the floor. For combustibles that are lighter than air, sensors should be installed 30 cm (1 foot) from the ceiling, close to the potential leak source. * May differ in certain applications.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Sensor Mounting Height
CO2 is heavier than air. Therefore, fixed CO2 safety monitor sensors should be mounted approximately 12 inches (30 cm) off the floor.
Carbon monoxide is lighter than air. It also rises with warm air, so the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends placing a carbon monoxide detector on a wall about five feet above the floor or about eye level. You can put them on the ceiling, too.
Because carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and also because it may be found with warm, rising air, detectors should be placed on a wall about 5 feet above the floor.
The ideal TV mounting height should create a comfortable, immersive viewing experience. To achieve this, the center of the TV should be around eye level while viewers are seated or lying down. In many cases, this means a TV mounting height of 40 to 50 inches, measured from the floor to the center of the screen.
The best practice is to mount the oxygen deficiency monitor 3 to 5 feet off the ground, as well as 3 to 5 feet away from a gas cylinder. There are situations when the oxygen monitor should be placed further away.
The sensor mounting height depends the type of application and on the density of the gas relative to air. Heavier than air gases should typically be detected 6 in / 15 cm (sometimes 12 in / 30 cm) from the floor.
Unique to Qube, each device undergoes multiple calibrations, which involve exposing sensors to known methane concentrations under varying environmental conditions to establish a 'calibration curve'. This allows accurate methane concentration measurements within 1 ppm or 1% of reading, whichever is greater (Figure 2).
While leaking in their liquid forms, toxic compounds can flow downwards and spread into the lowest areas. The detectors should be installed at low levels (1 to 3 feet) above ground level.

It operates at wavelengths in the 1.60–1.65 µm range; the operating wavelength for methane monitoring is 1,645 µm.
Overall, a motion detector should be mounted on the wall, between 6 and 8 feet high. Some people also put their motion detectors on or near the ceiling. That can work with a standard ceiling height — which is around eight feet — but may not be the best choice for any homeowner who has 10 or 12-foot-tall ceilings.
The breathing zone refers to the area 4 - 6 ft / 1.2-1.8 m from the floor, where most human breathing takes place. This is a good default location for sensors, as many gases often disperse well in air. Sensors should be placed near the source of the gas if possible.
Motion sensors usually work best when mounted between 6 and 8 feet off the floor. Ideal height is usually 7 feet. Although, different models might have different requirements — so check the manual of your specific sensor to know for sure.
The alarm must be located at least 3 feet, but not more than 10 feet from the appliance, measured horizontally. The gas alarm must be installed on either the ceiling, or a wall. Where installed on a wall, the alarm must be located not more than 12 inches from the ceiling.
Calculate this by measuring the distance from the floor to your eyes while sitting. Use this measurement to determine where on the wall your TV should go. For example, if your eye level is 1 metre from the floor, aim for the TV screen's centre to be around that height.

For most pictures, hang them so that the center of the picture is at eye level, which is usually around 57 inches from the floor. Larger pictures, you can hang them a bit higher, so that the top of the picture is just above eye level.
CO is lighter than air and as it rises, it accumulates near ceilings. Detectors need to be placed higher on the walls or on the ceiling, but not so high that they're easy to ignore. Battery-operated detectors need to be checked monthly.
One-off CO2 measurement
To take a measurement, place the sensor in the measurement area, ideally at breast height, and outside the area that could affect the measurement (window, door, ventilation duct, etc.). Avoid staying too close (> 1.5 m) so as not to influence the measurement.
CO2 Sensor Installation
Careful thought should be put into planning the system placement, electrical wiring, and protection of the devices as well as training employees about what to do if they hear an alarm. The CO2 sensor should be mounted 12 inches (31cm) from the floor.
