A 3.0 cubic foot box is the Goldilocks of the moving resources world. It can fit almost anything from lamps, kitchen supplies, and even pots and pans. The 3.0 cubic foot box is the most commonly used size box for moving, so you should definitely have a lot of them on hand.
Order some 13x13x13'' boxes from U-Line. Plus 8x8x8'' boxes for 45s, if you have enough of those to justify it.
Medium-sized boxes (3 cubic feet) are typically the most-used box (more on that to come!), but other box sizes and specialty boxes will ensure your move goes smoothly.
Standard box sizes
Moving boxes typically come in sizes from small to extra-large. Small — Measure around 16" x 12" x 12". These are ideal for packing things like books, CDs and DVDs, and kitchen gadgets. Medium — Measure around 18" x 16" x 18" and are great for things like towels and decorative items.
Yet, in all reality, new boxes are worth it as they are easy to stack and sturdy enough to prevent any damage to your items throughout the move. If you can't justify the cost of the cardboard boxes, then consider renting moving crates from a moving center.
Options such as plastic bins, sturdy crates, or even repurposed containers like suitcases and duffel bags can be used to pack and transport your belongings. Not only are these containers more durable than cardboard, but they can also be used multiple times, reducing the need for single-use packaging.
To overcome the default behavior, which often leads to challenges, a recommended approach is to set `box-sizing` to `border-box` . With this setting, the width and height of an element now include its padding and border, ensuring a more intuitive and predictable layout.
Our standard box sizes include:
8 x 8 x 8. 10 x 10 x 10. 12 x 12 x 6. 12 x 12 x 12.
Small Moving Boxes (18" x 12" x 12")
Ideal for fragile items and small, heavy belongings, Small Moving Boxes are perfect for packing books, dishes, glassware, and other compact items. These boxes are easy to handle and prevent over-packing of heavy items, ensuring a safer move.
12-inch: Twelve inches is the standard diameter for full albums, generally holding up to 22 minutes per side.

Wardrobe boxes are the best way to transport suits, gowns, and other valuable items. But before packing, give them an extra layer of protection. Garment bags keep your clothing free of dust, dirt, hair, and odor, while preventing wrinkles, snags, and pulls, so your clothes arrive as good as new.
When it comes to pests, cardboard boxes are not your friend. Cardboard is susceptible to moisture and humidity and attractive to many types of insects.
These boxes should not be re-used and do not need to be as they can be ordered from the Postal Store at no cost. Misuse may be a violation of federal law.
Begin by measuring the item you intend to box at it longest, widest and tallest points to determine the dimensions that you will need. If you are placing more than one item in the box, arrange them in the manner that you expect to box them, and then measure the grouping. All measurements should be in inches.
For a 3-bedroom home with an average amount of belongings, we recommend 16 small, 34 medium, 7 large, and 6 extra-large boxes. Plus 3 wardrobe boxes per each closet used for clothing. You don't want to buy too many boxes. You also don't want to find yourself needing more in the middle of packing.
